Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good story about Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth? 🤘
So, Pearcy shared some stories about crossing paths with Eddie and Dave, and it’s like he’s trying to make us all feel like we’re part of some exclusive club or something. Pearcy said, “Yeah. They changed the whole face of rock. Seriously. I mean, what an impact, this guitar guy and this entertainment and the most solid rhythm section from two guys, and then brother Michael [Anthony], his voice. I mean, holy shit.” And I’m like, “Holy shit” is right, because who wouldn’t be impressed by Eddie’s guitar skills? 🤯 It’s not like every other guitarist in the 80s was trying to emulate him or anything… oh wait, they were. 🎸
But seriously, Pearcy also talked about how VAN HALEN’s influence extended beyond just their music. He said, “What Dave did for everybody, all the lead singers on the Strip, or most of them, especially if you had blonde hair or something, trying to emulate Dave — I mean, he had the image, he had the rap, he had the voice — and a lot of us out there that were seeing this were going, ‘Holy shit,’ to all of it.” And I’m like, “Yeah, because who wouldn’t want to be David Lee Roth?” 🤣
A Blast from the Past
Pearcy also reflected on the first time he met VAN HALEN, which was at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood. He told Metal Edge magazine, “It was at the Whisky [A Go Go in West Hollywood]. I lived in San Diego, but a friend of mine kept saying, ‘You gotta see this band — they’re playing Gazzarri’s and they’re amazing.’ I kept missing them at Gazzarri’s, but then one time he said, ‘Okay, now they’re playing the Whisky. You’ve gotta go.'” And I’m like, “Yeah, because that’s exactly what I would do if I were a rock star… just casually show up at a club and hope to meet the band.” 🤣
But in all seriousness, Pearcy’s stories about VAN HALEN are pretty cool, even if they are a bit name-droppy. I mean, who wouldn’t want to hear about the time he met Eddie Van Halen or the time he saw VAN HALEN play at the Whisky? 🎸 It’s like he’s trying to make us all feel like we’re part of some exclusive club, and I’m like, “Sure, Stephen, I’ll just pretend to be a rock star for a day.” 🤘
