Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach, and I’ve got to say, this guy’s story just never ends. He’s been convicted of sex abuse back in 2012, and now he’s withdrawing his petition for a new trial in state court, with plans to take his case to federal court instead. I mean, you can’t blame the guy for trying, but it’s been a long and winding road for him, and I’m not sure what he hopes to achieve at this point.
I’m reading that a judge in Centre County, Pennsylvania, accepted Sandusky’s withdrawal of his petition, and he even appeared virtually from prison to confirm his decision. I guess that’s one way to avoid a trip to the courthouse. His attorneys had notified the court of his intentions last week, but the judge still wanted to hear it from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.
Now, I know Sandusky has always maintained his innocence, and I suppose that’s his right. But it’s hard to forget the fact that he was convicted of some pretty heinous crimes, and there were plenty of people who testified against him back in the day. In fact, one of those victims was scheduled to recant his allegations in court on Tuesday, which would have been a pretty big deal. But I guess that’s not going to happen now, since Sandusky’s withdrawn his petition.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen next in this case, but I do know that Sandusky’s team is hoping to find a faster route to appeal in federal court. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s a developing story, as they say, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about it in the days to come.
As I finish up my coffee and put down the paper, I’ve got to say, this whole thing is just a big mess. I mean, Sandusky’s been convicted, he’s been to prison, and now he’s trying to appeal. It’s a long and complicated process, and I’m not sure anyone’s going to come out of it looking good. But hey, that’s the way the justice system works, right? And who knows, maybe Sandusky will finally get the outcome he’s looking for. But until then, I’m just going to sit back, sip my coffee, and enjoy the show. After all, as they say, “you can’t make this stuff up” – and boy, is that the truth.
