Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about President Donald Trump’s latest antics, and I just can’t help but shake my head. It seems Trump is trying to take the Kennedy Center hostage over a judge’s refusal to let him put his name on it. Because, you know, the Kennedy Center just wouldn’t be the same without a big, shiny “Trump” on the building. I mean, who needs actual artistic merit when you can have a Trump brand slapped on it?
Trump’s claims that the Kennedy Center needs him are just laughable. He’s said that without his name on the building, the center’s fundraising will come to a halt, and they’ll have to return any money they’ve raised. But, as it turns out, Congress has already appropriated $257 million for renovating the building. So, it seems Trump is trying to take credit for something that’s already been done.
The administration has been making this argument repeatedly, including in court filings. They’ve said that without Trump’s name on the building, the center will be in a “financial and structural death spiral.” But, as the judge pointed out, the evidence suggests that the renaming of the center coincided with declines in revenue and contributions. It seems that Trump’s involvement has actually hurt the center, rather than helping it.
I have to say, it’s pretty rich that Trump is claiming he’s raised $17 million for the Kennedy Center. Especially when you consider that the center was running a $41 million surplus just a few years ago. It’s almost like Trump is trying to create a problem just so he can claim to be the solution.
The judge in the case, Christopher R. Cooper, has seen right through Trump’s claims. He’s said that the administration has offered no evidence to back up their assertions, and that the evidence actually points in the opposite direction. It’s almost like Trump thinks he can just bully the judge into giving him what he wants.
As I finish my coffee, I’m left shaking my head at the sheer audacity of Trump’s claims. It’s like he thinks the Kennedy Center is his personal playground, and he can do whatever he wants with it. But, thankfully, the judge is having none of it. And, as the saying goes, “you can’t make this stuff up” – although, I have to say, it’s getting harder and harder to tell what’s real and what’s not in this administration.
In the end, it’s just another example of Trump’s ego getting in the way of actual governance. And, as we’ve seen time and time again, it’s not going to end well. So, I’ll just sit back, sip my coffee, and watch the train wreck that is the Trump administration. Because, at this point, it’s just entertainment. And, who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back on all of this and just laugh – but for now, it’s just a never-ending spectacle.
