Pancreatic Cancer Picks Worst Possible Target Rich Cipriano

Pancreatic Cancer Picks Worst Possible Target Rich Cipriano

Oh no, the New York Hardcore scene is about to get a whole lot less sick 🤕! Richie Cipriano, the legendary bassist of SICK OF IT ALL, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Because, you know, the universe just loves to kick a guy when he’s down. I mean, who needs good news when you can have a cancer diagnosis, right? 🙄

So, let’s get this straight – Richie Cipriano, the guy who helped shape the sound of New York Hardcore with SICK OF IT ALL, is now fighting for his life. And, of course, the community he helped build is rallying around him because that’s what you do when someone’s going through a tough time. I mean, it’s not like they’re just doing it for the ‘gram or anything 📸. The Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has set up the Richie Cipriano Fund to help with medical expenses, because, you know, cancer isn’t cheap. And, hey, if you want to help out, you can buy a fundraising T-shirt from Revelation Records, because who doesn’t love a good merch opportunity? 🛍️

The History of SICK OF IT ALL

SICK OF IT ALL was formed in 1986 in Queens, New York by Lou Koller and his brother, guitarist Pete Koller, along with drummer Armand Majidi. And, fun fact, Richie Cipriano was the bassist during the band’s formative years, which is just a fancy way of saying he was there from the beginning. The band released its debut album, “Blood, Sweat, And No Tears”, in 1989, which is still a classic to this day. I mean, who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned hardcore album? 🤘

But, seriously, Richie’s diagnosis is a reminder that even the toughest guys in the hardcore scene can get knocked down. And, hey, if you’re feeling generous, you can donate to the Richie Cipriano Fund or buy that T-shirt I mentioned earlier. I mean, it’s not like you have anything better to spend your money on, right? 🤑

The Legacy of Lou Koller

And, because the universe loves to rub it in, SICK OF IT ALL vocalist Lou Koller passed away in July after a long battle with an esophageal tumor. I mean, who needs a happy ending when you can have a sad one, right? 😔. Lou announced in September 2025 that his cancer had returned, because, you know, cancer is just a real party crasher. The band released its latest album, “Wake The Sleeping Dragon!”, in 2018, which is still a great album, even if it’s not as good as their old stuff. I mean, let’s be real, nothing beats the classics 🙄.

So, there you have it – Richie Cipriano is fighting cancer, and the New York Hardcore scene is rallying around him. Because, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about – supporting the people who make the music that makes us want to punch things 🤯. So, go ahead, donate, buy a T-shirt, or just send some good vibes Richie’s way. And, hey, if you’re feeling extra generous, you can even listen to some SICK OF IT ALL albums, because, you know, that’s what it’s all about – the music 🎸.
