Trump Reboots Favorite Lie About Schools Secretly Surgifying Kids

Trump Reboots Favorite Lie About Schools Secretly Surgifying Kids

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. President Donald Trump is at it again, claiming that schools in parts of the US are sending children for gender surgeries without their parents’ knowledge. I mean, come on, that’s quite a tale. He’s been peddling this story for a while now, and it’s just as ridiculous as it was the first time I heard it. According to CNN, Trump told this outlandish lie during the final months of the 2024 presidential campaign, and now he’s revived it for the 2026 midterm campaign.

I’m not sure what’s more astonishing, the fact that Trump keeps repeating this claim or that he thinks people will actually believe it. At a rally in Georgia, he said, “We got critical race theory and transgender mutilization (sic) insanity out of our schools. I mean, we have five states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy, three or four days later.” Yeah, because that’s exactly how it works, right? Schools just magically changing kids’ genders without their parents’ consent. Give me a break.

The thing is, there’s no truth to this claim. None. Zilch. Zero. Experts in gender identity care have told CNN that they don’t know of a single case where a US school had secretly sent a child away for gender surgery. And the White House itself couldn’t provide one example to prove Trump’s point. Five conservative organizations contacted by CNN didn’t respond, probably because they know it’s a baseless claim.

A spokesperson for Minnesota’s education department, Anna Arkin, called Trump’s claim “unequivocally false.” And the president of the National Association of School Nurses board of directors, Lynn Nelson, noted that even giving a student Tylenol typically requires written parent or guardian permission. Nelson said Trump’s claims about schools sending children off for secret gender surgeries are “false” and “misrepresent the care school nurses provide.”

Landon Hughes, an instructor at Harvard Medical School, said, “There are no documented cases of schools taking children to hospitals for gender-affirming surgery.” Lindsey Dawson, director of the LGBTQ Health Policy Program at KFF, a health policy research organization, also said, “The claim that schools are medically transitioning students is patently false.” It’s clear that Trump’s claim is not only entirely unsupported by evidence but also reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the legal and medical consent requirements governing surgical care for minors.

The White House tried to defend Trump’s claim by sending a list of cases where schools facilitated minors’ social transitions without their parents’ knowledge. But that’s very different from Trump’s narrative about schools sending a child to a hospital for an operation their parents didn’t know about. The White House claimed that there’s a “direct nexus” between these processes being initiated at schools and the same kids eventually ending up in hospitals and doctors’ offices taking dangerous drugs and undergoing permanent mutilation procedures. But that’s just not what Trump said. He didn’t say children “eventually” end up getting surgery; his story wasn’t about the alleged future dangers of schools permitting minors to make social transitions.

In one case highlighted by the White House, a school counselor encouraged a student to make a social transition and discussed the possibility of hormone treatments and gender surgery. But the student’s parents didn’t consent to hormones or surgery, and the student eventually resumed identifying as a girl. So, even in a state known for being supportive of students who want to undergo social transitions at school, there was no surgery without parental consent.

In conclusion, Trump’s claim about schools sending children for gender surgeries without their parents’ knowledge is a complete fabrication. It’s a ridiculous story with no basis in reality, and it’s astonishing that he keeps repeating it. I guess that’s just politics as usual, folks. And on that note, I’ll just say that it’s time for Trump to stop peddling this nonsense and focus on the real issues. After all, as the saying goes, “you can’t make this stuff up” – but apparently, Trump can.
