Reacher gets yet another rebooted corner to sell you more of the same

Get ready for another exciting spinoff, because the suits at Amazon have decided that the Reacher universe just isn’t big enough… yet. The first season of Neagley, the Reacher spinoff, premiered on September 16th on Prime Video, because who needs a social life when you can binge-watch an entire season in one sitting? I mean, I’m not complaining, but I do wonder if the people at Amazon have ever heard of the concept of “pace yourself.” The season explores a new format for those who already watch Reacher, and focuses on recurring character Neagley during her time between visits with Reacher, because who doesn’t love a good character study? Throughout the season, she forms a bond with a team of characters, and by the end of the season, it looks like some of them might just stick around for future seasons, because what’s a spinoff without a few familiar faces?

A Chat with the Cast

I had the chance to sit down with the core cast of Neagley ahead of the season one launch, and let me tell you, they’re just as excited as I am to dive into this new world. Marie Sten, Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, and Jasper Jones discuss what it was like creating this new world in the Reacher universe, getting a deeper look at Neagley herself, and they even left some big hints as to what episodes of Neagley Season 1 to watch out for. Because, you know, spoilers are the best.

Building a New Corner of the Reacher Universe

The cast talks about how it feels to bring Neagley into her spotlight and dig deeper into that character. Maria Sten says it’s exciting to get this opportunity and to share Neagley’s nuances with the world. Greyston Holt mentions that it’s an incredible feeling to be a part of the Reacher universe, and to be the male lead on the spinoff with Maria. Jasper Jones says it’s super exciting to be part of something that’s such a spectacle, and Adeline Rudolph notes that people have been craving to know more about Neagley, and to be able to jump into this world with these exciting characters and build out all these relationships.

Research and Development

The cast also talks about whether they needed to do any research into the previous Reacher season or the books. Jasper Jones says he definitely watched the previous season to nail the rhythm, while Adeline Rudolph mentions that having the same creators, Nick Wootton and Nick Santora, was a great reference point. Maria Sten notes that they all have different arcs and journeys they have to go on, and they will continue to be challenged.

Favourite Moments from Filming

The cast shares some of their favourite moments from filming Neagley. Maria Sten loves the finale, with its good moments from an action standpoint and emotional catharsis. Greyston Holt says that episode five is particularly good, with its crazy bottle-episode structure. Adeline Rudolph and Jasper Jones both agree that episode five is one of their favourites, and Jasper Jones also mentions the cereal scene in the pilot as a magical moment.

All eight episodes of Neagley are streaming now on Prime Video, so grab some popcorn, get comfy, and binge away. And don’t worry, I won’t judge you if you finish the entire season in one sitting. After all, that’s what the folks at Amazon are counting on.
