Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who got himself into a bit of a pickle in California’s wine country. Apparently, he was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Yountville, a small town in Napa County, where he struck a legally parked car and then drove away. I mean, who hasn’t had a senior moment or two, right? The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said Pelosi’s brown convertible suffered “major damage,” but thankfully, no one was injured.
As I continue reading, I find out that a witness saw the whole thing go down and called 911. The sheriff’s deputies found Pelosi a quarter of a mile away with significant damage to his car, and he told them he knew he hit something but wasn’t sure what. Bless their hearts, I’m sure it can be confusing when you’re 86 and driving a convertible. The good news is that Pelosi didn’t have any alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.
Now, the sheriff’s office is recommending misdemeanor charges against Pelosi for fleeing the scene of an accident. I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that he drove away or that he’s still driving at 86. I mean, I know some seniors who are still going strong, but maybe it’s time to reconsider getting behind the wheel. The California Department of Motor Vehicles is going to review his case to determine whether he should still be driving, which seems like a pretty standard procedure for elderly drivers.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t Pelosi’s first run-in with the law. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence in Napa County and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation. He also had to attend a drinking driver class, install an ignition interlock device, and pay around $7,000 in restitution and fines. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
Pelosi also made headlines in late 2022 when he was attacked and severely beaten with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home. The attacker, David DePape, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2024. I’m just glad that Pelosi is okay, and I hope he’s taking it easy and not driving around too much.
In conclusion, it seems like Paul Pelosi has had a bit of a rough streak lately. From the hit-and-run accident to his previous DUI charge, it’s clear that he needs to be more careful on the road. I hope he takes this as a wake-up call and considers hanging up his keys for good. After all, there’s no need to rush around when you’re 86 and living in wine country – just take a deep breath, pour yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy the scenery. And that’s the story, folks, a tale of senior moments, wine country, and the importance of road safety. 🙄
