Judge to DOJ: Hands Off Georgia Election Workers Info

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and trying to make sense of this latest development in the never-ending saga of the 2020 election. A federal judge has blocked a grand jury subpoena for information about election workers in Georgia, which is a big deal, apparently. The Justice Department was trying to get its hands on some info, but the judge was all like, “Nah, you don’t need that.” I mean, I’m no lawyer, but it seems like the judge is saying that the subpoena was too broad and that the Justice Department doesn’t have a good enough reason to be snooping around.

The whole thing is pretty interesting, especially since the Georgia election was a big target of President Trump’s election-rigging claims. I remember when that was all over the news, and it seemed like every other day, there was some new development or controversy. Anyway, it looks like the judge is trying to put the brakes on this investigation, at least for now.

US District Judge William Ray called the subpoena “staggering” and said that the use of the subpoena power to investigate the 2020 election was not legitimate, given the statute of limitations for any potential crime. That’s a fancy way of saying that the Justice Department is trying to open a can of worms that’s probably already expired. I mean, come on, folks, it’s been a few years since the election – can’t we just move on already?

The judge’s decision is pretty straightforward: “In this Court’s view, the DOJ does not possess a need to enforce the Subpoena greater than the burden of disclosure on Fulton County, and as such, the Court will not enforce it.” Translation: the Justice Department doesn’t have a good enough reason to be asking for all this information, so the court is saying no. I guess that’s one way to put the kibosh on an investigation.

This story is still developing, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens next. But for now, it seems like the judge has put a big ol’ roadblock in the way of the Justice Department’s investigation. And that’s a wrap, folks – another day, another twist in the never-ending saga of American politics. I’ll just be over here, sipping my coffee and trying to keep up with it all 🙄.
