Trump Requests Supreme Court Intervention In His Favor Again Somehow

Well, folks, it looks like President Donald Trump is at it again, trying to wriggle his way out of a messy legal situation. This time, he’s appealing to the Supreme Court to get out of paying an $83.3 million jury verdict for defamation to magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll. Because, you know, being president apparently means you’re immune from all litigation. I almost spilled my coffee reading this one.

The appeal is based on the Supreme Court’s 2024 decision granting the president wide immunity for actions taken in office. Trump’s attorneys are arguing that this decision means he shouldn’t have to pay the damages, and that the United States government should be the defendant instead. Because, apparently, the president’s actions are somehow the government’s responsibility, not his own.

Trump’s team is also claiming that the appeals court decision upholding the damages award would “cause significant damage, not only to this president and future presidents” but also the nation. Oh, the drama. It’s like they’re trying to make us believe that the fate of the country rests on whether or not Trump has to pay for defaming someone.

The case involves statements Trump made against Carroll in 2019, when he was president, that a jury found were defamatory. Trump has denied wrongdoing, of course, and is now trying to get the Supreme Court to weigh in. The Justice Department is also getting involved, trying to take over the case under the Westfall Act, which would shield Trump from personal liability.

It’s all a bit of a circus, if you ask me. The Supreme Court won’t consider the appeal until the fall, and if they agree to hear it, a decision won’t come until next June. In the meantime, Carroll has already received over $5 million from Trump in a separate case involving sexual abuse and defamation. It’s looking like Trump’s going to have to cough up some serious cash, no matter what the Supreme Court decides.

As I sit here sipping my coffee, I have to wonder what’s going through Trump’s mind. Does he really think he’s above the law? Does he really think he can just appeal his way out of every uncomfortable situation? It’s like he’s trying to make a mockery of the entire legal system. And yet, here we are, watching it all play out like a bad soap opera.

In the end, it’s all just a big game to Trump. He’s got his lawyers, his appeals, and his tweets. But at the end of the day, it’s looking like he’s going to have to pay the price for his actions. And that, folks, is just the way the cookie crumbles. Or should I say, the way the coffee spills? 🙄
