Silent Hill f Intro: Finally, Something to Yawn At (2025 Anime Expo Exclusive)

Okay, so like, Konami had a panel at Anime Expo 2025 for Silent Hill f, and it was totally mind-blowing… or not. 🙄 They showed some “unseen footage” (probably just the same trailer on loop) and answered fan questions, which were probably all pre-approved and boring. Series producer Motoi Okamoto, script writer Ryukishi07, and musical composer Akira Yamaoka (the only reason anyone still cares about Silent Hill tbh) were there. I bet the JW Marriott Platinum Ballroom was packed with people who have nothing better to do on a weekend.

Silent Hill f is about some teenage girl named Hinako Shimizu who’s, like, super stressed about society’s expectations. 😩 She lives in a town called Ebisugaoka that’s covered in fog and turning into a weird, flowery nightmare. Players will have to solve mysteries, fight monsters, and make choices that decide Hinako’s fate. Sounds original, right? 🙄

The creative geniuses behind this latest cash grab installment talked about how they made this terrifying new world and answered questions from the “fans” (aka, the only people who still haven’t given up hope). Okamoto-san, Ryukishi07-san, and Yamaoka-san were all, like, “OMG, we’re so excited!” Yamaoka-san said, “This isn’t a live concert, but we are happy to show you what we have in store.” Yeah, because nobody actually cares about the game, they just want to hear your music, Akira. 🎶

So, some genius asked why Silent Hill f is set in Japan. Okamoto-san was all, “Silent Hill is always a mix of western and Japanese influences. We feel we lost the Japanese elements along the way. So, we wanted to go full Japanese for this one.” Right, because cultural appropriation is totally cool now. 👍 He also said that Kanayama, Gero in the Gifu Prefecture, was the inspiration for the game’s setting. Ryukishi07 chose it because of its architecture and “labyrinthine” alleyways. So basically, they just picked a random Japanese town and made it spooky. 👻

Okamoto-san answered a question about whether the game will be more psychological or paranormal. He compared Silent Hill f to “a tossed and mixed salad.” 🥗 He said that if you let the salad sit for a while, the ingredients will start to separate. So deep, man. He hinted that there might be more to the game than meets the eye. Yeah, like microtransactions and DLC. 💸

Ryukishi07-san talked about how he wrote the characters. He said he wanted to “split and compartmentalize them,” with each character having distinct traits. Wow, so original! 🤯 He said this was “an elaborate, thoughtful inspiration for the game.” They even showed a video of Hinako chatting with a classmate in a rice paddy field. Riveting stuff. 🌾

Yamaoka-san said he wanted the game to sound “true Japanese,” using Japanese styles and sensitivities. So, basically, he’s just going to use a bunch of traditional Japanese instruments and call it a day. 🤷‍♂️ He also said he wants to create new things and that he’s inspired by the new people he meets. Yeah, because you haven’t been doing the same thing for 25 years. 🙄

The Anime Expo crowd went wild when they saw the three-minute opening to Silent Hill f. 🎉 It had Yamaoka-san’s music and b-roll footage of key areas in the game. A “nice preview of what is to come”. Aka the same tired gameplay loop of exploring spooky environments.

If you’re going to Anime Expo 2025, Konami has a special Silent Hill f booth where you can take photos with themed backdrops. 📸 They also have exclusive items you can take home while supplies last. Because nothing says “I’m a cool gamer” like free promotional junk. 😎 Be sure to follow Konami on social media and check out their website for all things Silent Hill. You know, if you’re still into that sort of thing. 🤡
