As I Lay Dying or As I Lay Crying? New Lineup, New Single, Same Old Drama

HAHA! 🤣 Metalcore “mainstays” AS I LAY DYING, the band that makes more comebacks than a boomerang on steroids, is BACK with their latest single, “Echoes”. Because nothing says “inspired new chapter” like replacing an entire band and pretending nothing happened. 🤷‍♂️

“Echoes” supposedly explores “internal battles,” which is rich, considering the external battles Lambesis has faced. 🎭 It’s all about “forging a new identity,” which is hilarious, because it sounds like the band is in a constant state of identity crisis!😱 The song supposedly balances “crushing heaviness and poignant introspection,” but let’s be honest, it probably sounds like every other generic metalcore song out there. 😴

“Echoes” marks the debut of a “dynamic new AS I LAY DYING lineup,” which basically means Lambesis couldn’t find anyone else who remembers the old songs and was willing to risk getting associated with him. Meet the new guys, who’ll be gone in 6 months:

Tim Lambesis – Vocals (still?)🎤
Chris Clancy – Bass, Clean Vocals (because metalcore) 🧽
Bill Hudson – Guitar (new blood…or is it?) 🎸
Don Vedda – Guitar (the other new blood!) 🎸
Tim Yeung – Drums (because you need drums) 🥁

Lambesis says, “As the only primary songwriter… I’m always going to find a path forward.” Translation: “I own the rights, so get over it.” He’s “grateful for his new bandmates,” which probably means they’re willing to work for less.🤑 Apparently, they “genuinely care about my well being,” which is either incredibly touching or incredibly naive. 😇

Hudson says he and Lambesis met “almost 20 years ago.” Talk about holding onto the past. 👴 He’s also been in multiple bands with Tim Y, proving that metalcore is basically a small town where everyone’s dated everyone else.🙄 It’s an “honor” to be part of the new chapter, according to Hudson. Sure, Jan. 🙄

Clancy is “excited to finally share this new chapter.” We’re excited to see how long it lasts! 😂 He’s “proud of what we’ve created together.” They better be, because who knows if there will be more.

This new formation is supposed to “infuse the band with renewed vitality,” which is probably code for “we needed new guys because the old ones bailed.”🏃‍♂️ Each member brings a “unique voice,” which is metalcore code for “they can scream and sing clean vocals.” 🗣️ It’s “rooted in legacy,” but “boldly reaching into new territory,” which is probably just marketing speak for “we’re trying not to sound exactly like our old stuff, but we probably will.” 🤷‍♀️

AS I LAY DYING is going on a European tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Shadows Are Security.” Get ready for deep cuts, tired anthems, and the lingering question of whether it’s okay to support this band. 🤔

Over the past seven years, AS I LAY DYING has had “lineup changes” that have left Lambesis as the only original member. 🤣 One might call it a revolving door of musicians! 🚪

Last year, four members left. What a shocker. 😮

Sgrosso left on October 30, 2024. The mass exodus continues. 🚶

The “Through Storms Ahead” tour was canceled. Color me surprised. 😒

Then there was the leaked video of Lambesis “appearing to hit and kick his own dog.” No comment. 🤐

And the videos of Lambesis having “violent outbursts.” It just keeps getting better. 🤡

Lambesis then released a statement accusing his wife of abuse. *eyeroll* 🙄

Oh, and let’s not forget he was convicted for a murder-for-hire plot. Just a minor detail. 🔪

He was sentenced to six years in jail. A slap on the wrist, really. 🤏

Susi claimed Lambesis used his incarceration to create a “reality TV persona.” Genius or delusional? You decide. 🧠

In June 2018, they played their first show back. The comeback no one asked for. 🔙

Hipa called Lambesis a “sociopathic narcissist.” Accurate? Maybe. 🤔
