M. Night Shyamalan Ruins the Magic 8 Ball with a TV Show No One Asked For

🤡 A Magic 8 Ball TV show? Oh, honey, the signs point to… maybe? I mean, who asked for this? 🤔 Is this what peak television looks like? I’m gonna go with a hard NO.

M. Night Shyamalan, the guy who peaked with The Sixth Sense and then spent the rest of his career trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle (spoiler alert: he hasn’t 🤷‍♀️), gave us a “sneak peek” (read: cry for attention) at his next project on Instagram. Surprising? Nah, it’s about as surprising as finding out your cat barfed on your favorite rug. 🙄

Shyamalan, in his infinite wisdom, is directing the pilot for Magic 8 Ball, a TV series based on a children’s toy. Yes, you read that right. 🤦‍♀️ He posted a pic of the script, asking “Who’s in?” My reply? Outlook not so good. 🙅‍♀️

Would I possibly post this article without including Shyamalan’s Instagram photo? My reply is no. I mean, how else are you gonna know I’m being serious…ly sarcastic? 😜

The Magic 8 Ball script is courtesy of Brad Falchuk, the mastermind behind such television masterpieces as Glee, Scream Queens, 9-1-19-1-1: Lone Star, and The Brothers Sun, and producing on shows like Nip/Tuck and American Horror Story. I’m sensing a theme here: chaotic, over-the-top, and slightly deranged. Sounds about right.🤪

Falchuk also hosts Neflix’s version of the TV series Famous Last Words, where celebs talk about their impending doom, and the episodes drop only after they kick the bucket. Morbid much? 💀 The first episode featured Dr. Jane Goodall. I bet that was a barrel of laughs. 😂 Do we know what other episodes of Famous Last Words Netflix has already shot and banked for the future? Ask again later. 🎱

Although Shyamalan is known for films like The Sixth SenseSplit, and Unbreakable, he’s dabbled in TV. Wayward Pines and Servant. So, what’s Magic 8 Ball about? Probably just promoting the toy. Shake it, ask a question, get a vague answer. Groundbreaking. 🙄 Is there any notion of what Magic 8 Ball might be about beyond promoting the famous toy, which is held by a user, asked a question, and then shaken, revealing one of 20 possible answers that range from yes to maybe to no? Reply hazy, try again. 🤷
