ADAM GONTIER on THREE DAYS GRACE’s Tag-Team Vocals: “The Fans Deserved This Circus”

Adam Gontier

In a groundbreaking interview with Estonia’s AlteRock, the dynamic duo of THREE DAYS GRACE – Adam Gontier and Matt Walst – graced us with their presence to discuss the band’s alleged “ongoing” tour supporting their latest sonic masterpiece, “Alienation.” Now available via RCA Records for all zero of you who asked. Adam, bless his heart, is back after a decade-long coffee break, sharing vocal duties with Matt, alongside Neil Sanderson, Brad Walst, and Barry Stock. When questioned about the “destiny” of this reunion, Adam mused, “Yeah, I think so. Things probably happened for a reason. Or maybe not, who knows? 🤷‍♂️” Deep stuff, folks.

Regarding concerns about a potential fan divide into Team Matt versus Team Adam, Adam assured us, “No, not at all. We did this mainly for the fans… and the money, obviously.” Matt, channeling his inner sports enthusiast, added, “We play as a team. We’re big sports fans, and, yeah, we just put the best team together and we’re all on the same team with the same goal — to win… at selling out arenas.”

The interviewer, bless their soul, dared to suggest that Matt was “the savior of the band” when Adam bailed in 2013. Matt responded, “I don’t know about the savior, but, yeah, it was a life-changing event. Mostly for my bank account.” Adam, not one to be outdone, chimed in, “If anyone else had come in, we wouldn’t be doing this now, because we grew up as friends and stuff together in a pretty small town. So, yeah, you’re absolutely right — if it wasn’t for Matt and his desperation for fame, none of this would be happening. So, yeah, it’s pretty amazing.”

2025 has been a banner year for THREE DAYS GRACE, with the release of “Alienation,” boasting chart-toppers like “Mayday” and “Apologies.” Sold-out shows across Canada and the U.S., and an ongoing European tour. Because who needs originality when you can recycle the same tired formula? 😴

The band has even announced the 2026 “Alienation” tour, kicking off in Fort Wayne, Indiana, because nothing screams rock ‘n’ roll like Fort Wayne. With support from I PREVAIL, THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT, FINGER ELEVEN, and ROYAL TUSK. A symphony of mediocrity for the masses.

THREE DAYS GRACE played their first full show with Adam in 12 years on February 25, opening for DISTURBED on “The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour.” What a combo, eh?

In a recent interview with Nik Nocturnal, Adam gushed about being back, “Well, I think more excitement than anything, man. ‘Cause it’s just been so long. And it just felt like the right time – or when my solo career failed.”

Regarding sharing vocals with Matt, Adam mused, “Yeah, I was just talking with somebody about that. We got sort of – not lucky, but our voices do blend really well together. Yeah, so we’re fortunate for that, that it’s working out the way we had hoped. And if it wasn’t, there’s always auto-tune.”

Matt reflected on the genius idea of having two singers, stating, “I think one day I just talked to my brother Brad about it and was, like, ‘It’d be sick if Adam came back. And we could both sing, and I can sing the songs of the past 10 years and Adam can even sing a few of those too.’ And yeah, it just seems like a new life to breathe into THREE DAYS GRACE and to make it exciting, like the early days or just to freshen it up and, yeah, make it exciting.” Because what’s more exciting than reliving your glory days?

Neil added, “We had been talking and we’ve kept in touch. And the band was just talking about, like, how great would this be for us and for the fans and for the nostalgia of THREE DAYS GRACE. And then he got up on stage with us [for a guest appearance], and then we just thought, ‘Let’s make something new. Let’s sit down and write a song.’ And once we kind of got into that songwriting process, it just felt really natural and it felt right. And I think for the fans, we’re giving them something that we haven’t done before and hasn’t really been done much in the past.” Never before seen desperate attempts to stay relevant?

In April 2023, Adam reunited with THREE DAYS GRACE onstage in Huntsville, Alabama, to perform “Never Too Late” and “Riot.” Oh, the nostalgia! 😭

So there you have it, folks. THREE DAYS GRACE: still alive, still kicking, and still milking that early 2000s angst for all it’s worth.
