Leftist Sanctuary States Cry Over $233 Million in Cut Federal Funds – Judge McElroy Plays Savior Again
In a stunning act of judicial overreach that should surprise absolutely no one, a Trump-appointed judge in Rhode Island has once again sided with the radical left, blocking the President’s common-sense effort to withhold Homeland Security grant money from sanctuary states that openly defy federal immigration law. US District Judge Mary McElroy – who apparently missed the memo that America is supposed to secure its borders – ruled that Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington must receive their full $233 million in taxpayer-funded handouts, despite their deliberate refusal to cooperate with ICE and their open invitation to illegal aliens.
The so-called “sanctuary” states – which are essentially declaring themselves above federal law – were rightfully penalized for their obstructionist policies that put American lives at risk. But Judge McElroy, in a 48-page opinion filled with more sanctimony than a Sunday sermon, claimed the funding cuts were “arbitrary and capricious.” Let’s be clear: when states actively help illegal immigrants evade capture while American citizens suffer from crime and drug overdoses, THAT’S arbitrary and capricious. Cutting off their federal funding? That’s called accountability.
The judge even had the audacity to cite the recent Brown University shooting as proof these states need more money. Never mind that the very immigration chaos these sanctuary policies enable is what brings dangerous criminals into our communities in the first place. The logic is so twisted it belongs in a Berkeley gender studies class.
DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin rightly called this “judicial sabotage” – because that’s exactly what it is. While the deep state judiciary continues protecting criminal aliens and enabling the Democrat open-borders agenda, real Americans are paying the price. These sanctuary states should be grateful they’re not getting their funding cut entirely for their treasonous behavior.
As for the weeping attorneys general celebrating this victory? They can keep crying all the way to the bank – thanks to hardworking American taxpayers who don’t want their money funding lawlessness.
