Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. President Trump’s transactionalism is getting more and more brazen by the day. He’s been using his power to wield potential official actions for political and personal gain, and it’s just getting ridiculous. I mean, who tries to tie Ukraine’s military aid to investigating the Bidens? Only Trump, that’s who. And now, he’s just coming out and saying it openly, like he’s trying to make it a normal thing.
I’m reading this article on CNN, and I just can’t believe the stuff that’s coming out of Trump’s mouth. He’s promising American adults thousands of dollars if they elect Republican majorities in November. Like, what is this, a bribe? And then he’s threatening to abandon or tear down the Kennedy Center if he’s not allowed to put his name on it. I mean, come on, Trump, you can’t just go around making threats like that.
And let’s not forget his “joke” about withholding disaster aid from North Carolina if they elect a Democratic senator. I put that in quotes because, honestly, it’s hard to tell when Trump is joking or not. But either way, it’s not funny. The people of North Carolina are still recovering from Hurricane Helene, and they don’t need some rich guy in Washington playing politics with their disaster aid.
The Kennedy Center thing is just amazing, though. Trump is basically saying that he needs personal recognition to save the institution, and if he doesn’t get it, he’ll just tear it down. I mean, what kind of president does that? It’s like he’s trying to be some kind of king or something.
And have you heard about the $5,000 checks thing? Trump is promising to give every adult American $5,000 if they elect Republican majorities in November. Like, where is he even getting this money from? And what’s to stop him from just paying people off to vote for him? It’s just a big mess, folks.
But you know what? Americans seem to be seeing through all this. A recent Reuters-Ipsos poll showed that 66% of registered voters think Trump’s promise to hand out $5,000 checks is “inappropriate”. Even Republicans think it’s a bad idea, with 37% saying it’s inappropriate compared to 33% who say it’s okay.
So, what’s the takeaway from all this? Trump is getting more and more brazen in his attempts to use his power for personal gain, but Americans are starting to catch on. Let’s just hope that someone can reign him in before he does any more damage. And in the meantime, I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the show, with a nice cup of coffee in my hand, because this is just getting good.
