Oh boy, are you guys ready for some exciting news? 🤯 I can barely contain my enthusiasm… Anthrax played a show at the new Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, and I’m still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor 🤯. I mean, who doesn’t love a good intimate concert with a legendary thrash metal band, right? 🤷♂️
So, on Friday, September 4, Anthrax took the stage at the new Saint Vitus Bar location in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and I’m sure it was a real blast from the past for all the old-school metalheads in attendance 🎸. The venue, which originally opened in 2011, has a rich history of hosting surprise sets by major acts, including members of Nirvana, Blink-182, Megadeth, and of course, Anthrax 🤟. But, in a shocking turn of events, it was shut down in February 2024 due to some pesky permit issues 🚫. Who needs permits when you have face-melting solos, am I right? 🤘
The Setlist: A Journey Through Anthrax’s Discography
The setlist for the show was a veritable journey through Anthrax’s extensive discography, featuring classics like “It’s For The Kids”, “Got The Time” (a Joe Jackson cover, because why not? 🤷♂️), “Madhouse”, and “Metal Thrashing Mad” 🤯. They even threw in some deeper cuts like “Now It’s Dark” and “Lone Justice”, which haven’t been played live since 2021 📆. And, because they’re Anthrax, they had to include some covers, like “Antisocial” (originally by TRUST) and “Clobberin’ Time” (originally by Sick Of It All) 🤘.
But wait, there’s more! They also played some new stuff, like “The Edge Of Perfection” and “Everybody’s Got A Plan”, which are set to appear on their upcoming album “Cursum Perficio” 🎉. Formed in 1981 by guitarist Scott Ian and then-bassist Dan Lilker, Anthrax has been a staple of the thrash metal scene for decades, and it’s amazing to see them still going strong 🙌. They’re set to release their twelfth full-length studio album, “Cursum Perficio”, on September 18 via Megaforce in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast in Europe 📆. The album’s title, which translates to “My journey has come to an end” or “I complete my journey”, is either a clever reference to their career or a hint at their impending retirement 🤔. Either way, it’s going to be a wild ride 🎢.
Get Ready for a Million Different Editions of “Cursum Perficio”
The album will be available in a staggering array of formats, including standard CD, Target-exclusive CD with a fabric patch, standard black double LP, Target-exclusive double LP with a red zoetrope, Amazon-exclusive double LP with a purple zoetrope, and a bunch of other limited edition variants 📦. Because, you know, who needs a simple CD or vinyl when you can have a million different editions to collect? 🤑 It’s like they say: “you can never have too many editions of the same album” 🤣.
In all seriousness, though, “Cursum Perficio” is shaping up to be a real masterpiece, with the band carefully crafting an album that’s both a nod to their past and a bold step forward 🎨. Produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax, the album promises to be “as angry, aggressive, and alive as their most celebrated fare” 🤯.
