Rival Sons taking entire year to make album youll forget in 2028

Oh boy, are you guys ready for some actual music news that doesn’t involve a reunion or a farewell tour? 🤯 RIVAL SONS guitarist Scott Holiday just spilled the beans on the band’s upcoming plans, and I’m not sure if I should be excited or just plain skeptical. Apparently, they’re working on new music, because, you know, it’s been a whole year since they released not one, but TWO albums, “Darkfighter” and “Lightbringer”. I mean, who needs a break, right? 🙄

So, Scott Holiday joined Mark Strigl on SiriusXM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard (because, of course, Ozzy has his own channel) to talk about his new solo project HOL1D4Y, RIVAL SONS’ upcoming plans, and his undying love for BLACK SABBATH. On the status of new RIVAL SONS music, Scott said: “We are in the process right now. We have done a little bit of stuff here and there, but not our normal, like, bury ourselves in the studio and get something done inside of a month, which we are going to do, planning like for mid-January. We have ideas. We have a record we want to make.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what I want to hear – a band that’s just winging it, but with a solid plan, of course.

The Wait is On

After Strigl suggested that the new RIVAL SONS album could potentially see a late 2027 release, Holiday said: “Something like that. Yeah, once the business gets a hold of it, it takes a minute, so hopefully, I would say late summer, hopefully the fall, something like that.” Oh, great, so we’ve got a whole year of anticipation ahead of us. I can barely contain my excitement 🤩. I mean, who needs new music when you can just re-listen to their entire discography for the 100th time?

But seriously, RIVAL SONS have been pretty busy, even if they haven’t been releasing new music left and right. They announced an extensive U.S. tour this fall, kicking off in Boise, Idaho and finishing up in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the end of November. Because, you know, the best way to promote new music is to tour… a year before it’s released. The Grammy-nominated band will head out across the U.S. this October, promising to play tracks from across its nine-album catalogue. Yeah, because they haven’t played those songs to death already.

A Little Help from Their Friends

RIVAL SONS will be joined by Canadian blues rock duo THE BLUE STONES and Colorado-based rock trio THE VELVETEERS on most shows. Because, you know, a good opening act can make all the difference. I mean, who doesn’t love a good warm-up before the main event? It’s not like RIVAL SONS can carry a show on their own or anything.

In all seriousness, RIVAL SONS have been subverting expectations left and right, releasing two full-length albums in one year, and even starting their own label, Sacred Tongue Recordings, distributed by Thirty Tigers. They’ve also been playing a ridiculous number of shows – over 250 in a year, to be exact. I mean, who needs a social life when you can play rock ‘n’ roll all day, every day?

So, there you have it, folks. RIVAL SONS are back, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Whether you’re excited or just plain tired of their constant touring and album releases, one thing’s for sure – they’re not going to let you down. Or will they? 🤔 Only time will tell. Stay tuned, I guess. 🤷‍♂️
