Oh boy, are you guys ready for some thrilling news? 🤯 A Perfect Circle’s “Starless” is still dominating the Active Rock radio charts, because of course it is. I mean, who doesn’t love a good dose of Maynard James Keenan’s soaring vocals and Billy Howerdel’s guitar wizardry? 🎸 It’s not like we’ve been listening to the same song on repeat for weeks or anything… 😴
As “Starless” spends its second consecutive week at No. 1, A Perfect Circle has decided to bless us with a new video featuring the debut live performance of the track, filmed at their sold-out London show this summer. Because, you know, we didn’t already have enough live performances of this song to last us a lifetime. 🙄 The clip was filmed by Jon Vulpine and Justin Jones, with editing from Jake Johnston, because who doesn’t love a good credits roll? 🎥
At the time of the single’s release, Maynard James Keenan shared: “Of course I’m excited to release the recordings, but our songs always take on an expanded personality once we start playing them live.” Wow, what a profound statement. I bet it took him hours to come up with that one. 🤓
A Perfect Circle’s Discography: A Brief History
Recorded at A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel’s Lankershim Ranch Studio in Studio City, California, “Starless” was produced by Howerdel, mixed by Matty Green (U2, FLORENCE + THE MACHINE, TV ON THE RADIO), and features longtime collaborator Josh Freese on drums. Because when you’re a rockstar, you get to record your music in a fancy studio with a bunch of other famous people. 🌟 “Some songs get kicked around and massaged for years,” Howerdel says. “But once in a while, one takes shape quickly, as if it had been there all along.” Yeah, sure, Billy, we’ve all been there… 🙄
A Perfect Circle also recently released a second song, “To Whom It May Concern”, which offers a counterpoint to the more muscular “Starless”, highlighting the nuanced songwriting that has made A Perfect Circle an enduring presence in modern rock. Because, you know, we needed another song to add to our playlist. 🎶
Upcoming Tour Dates: Because You Clearly Haven’t Seen Them Live Enough
A Perfect Circle resumes its global tour on November 25, with dates across Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hawaii. Because who doesn’t love a good dose of sun, sand, and Maynard’s voice? 🌴 The band launches their North American leg on April 13 with Puscifer (April 13 to 25) and The Cult (April 27 to June 13) joining them across the two-month outing. Tickets for all dates are available at aperfectcircle.com, because you clearly haven’t spent enough money on concert tickets this year. 🎟️
Formed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and vocalist Maynard James Keenan, A Perfect Circle released their debut album, “Mer De Noms”, in 2000. The collection debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting debut rock album of its time. Featuring fan favorites “Judith”, “3 Libras”, and “The Hollow”, the platinum-selling release remains a defining album. Their catalog has continued to resonate, from “Thirteenth Step” (2003) and “eMOTIVe” (2004), to 2018’s “Eat The Elephant”, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Wow, what a long and illustrious career. I’m sure they’re not tired of playing the same songs over and over again. 🙄
A Perfect Circle have headlined festivals worldwide, sold out iconic venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and appeared on late-night television shows, including “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Tonight Show”. Because, you know, they’re kind of a big deal. 🤩
So, there you have it. A Perfect Circle is still a thing, and they’re still making music, and they’re still touring. Who knew? 🤷♂️ I guess we’ll just have to keep listening to “Starless” on repeat until they come up with something new. 🎧
