Supreme Court Revives Street Preacher’s Epic Rant Against ‘Sissies’ at Concert – Free Speech Wins, Egos Bruised

Oh look, another “free speech” hero gets his day in court – and by hero, I mean the guy yelling “whores” and “sissies” at concertgoers like it’s his divine calling.

The Supreme Court, in a shocking display of unity (yes, even the libs agreed), decided that Gabriel Olivier – a Mississippi street preacher with a megaphone and a persecution complex – can sue the city of Brandon for daring to ask him to chill out 265 feet away from the amphitheater.

Olivier’s legal team (funded by First Liberty Institute, because of course) argued he’s not trying to overturn his conviction – just stop future enforcement of the city’s “don’t be a jerk near concerts” ordinance. The lower courts said no way, citing a 1994 precedent that blocks convicted folks from using civil suits to undermine their guilty pleas. But the Supreme Court, in a rare moment of clarity (or confusion), said sure, why not?

The backstory? Olivier and his merry band of sign-wavers would show up at concerts, scream Bible verses at attendees, and occasionally brandish signs with aborted fetuses (classy). Concertgoers would dodge traffic to avoid them, fights would break out, and police had to intervene. So Brandon passed an ordinance requiring protesters to use a designated area, keep their speakers under 100 feet, and hold signs by hand.

Olivier refused, got arrested in 2021 while people were trying to enjoy some Lee Brice (the horror), pleaded no contest, paid a fine, and got probation. But that wasn’t enough – he wanted to make sure no one could ever tell him to pipe down again.

The Court’s decision could open the floodgates for similar challenges nationwide. Local governments are already sweating bullets over parade permits, adult business zoning, and homeless encampment rules. But hey, at least now street preachers everywhere have a new legal precedent to hide behind while they shout insults at strangers. Freedom!

Justice Elena Kagan wrote the opinion, proving once again that even the most liberal justices can’t resist a good First Amendment circus. The conservative 6-3 majority has been on a religious liberty roll lately, so this was basically a layup.

So congratulations, Gabriel Olivier – you’ve officially turned “love thy neighbor” into “yell at thy neighbor until they call the cops.” Truly inspiring stuff.
