Only Dems Allowed In Dem primaries apparently

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama in the Democratic party, and I just can’t help but chuckle. Apparently, some Democrats are getting a little anxious about two democratic socialists winning primaries in New York City. I mean, who wouldn’t be, right? It’s not like the party has been leaning left for a while now or anything. Delaware Sen. Chris Coons joined Dana Bash to share his thoughts on the matter, and let me tell you, it’s a real treat.

So, Sen. Coons says, “While folks can take ideas from other political traditions, if you’re running in a Democratic primary, you ought to be a Democrat.” Wow, what a bold statement. I’m surprised he didn’t get a standing ovation for that one. I mean, it’s not like it’s a given that if you’re running in a Democratic primary, you should actually be a Democrat. But hey, I guess it’s good that someone is saying it out loud.

Coons also added, “I think it’s important that we focus on who’s leading the party, not on a few folks here and there who are great at getting television attention.” Oh, burn. I’m sure those “few folks” he’s referring to are just thrilled to be called out like that. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer is probably high-fiving themselves for booking Coons on the show, thinking, “This is going to be great TV!”

You can’t make this stuff up, folks. The Democratic party is just so entertaining to watch these days. It’s like a never-ending soap opera, and I am here. for. it. I mean, who needs actual policy discussions when you can just argue about who’s a “real” Democrat? It’s like the political equivalent of a family reunion, except instead of arguing over who ate the last piece of pie, they’re arguing over who’s more liberal.

In all seriousness, though, it’s interesting to see the Democratic party grappling with its own identity. I mean, what does it mean to be a Democrat in 2023? Is it just about being liberal, or is it about something more? These are the kinds of questions that will likely dominate the conversation leading up to the next election. And hey, who knows, maybe we’ll even get some answers.

In conclusion, the Democratic party is still figuring itself out, and it’s been a wild ride so far. As I finish my coffee and wrap up this article, I’m left thinking, “What’s next?” Will the party continue to lean left, or will it find a way to balance its more progressive elements with its moderate wing? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure – it’s going to be a fun show to watch. And who knows, maybe someday they’ll even figure out what it means to be a Democrat. 🙃
