It’s not every day that a sports game comes along and shakes things up with a new game mode that can change the way you meet friends and make new ones. This week, I had the chance to spend some time at the EA studio in Vancouver, learning all about the updates and changes coming to EA SPORTS FC 27, and let me tell you, their new game mode, The Grounds, has me hooked. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play a sports game that’s essentially a giant playground, where you can run around, play pick-up games, and customize your character with all sorts of cool cosmetics?
A New Way to Play
The Grounds is an open-world free-play map that allows players to jump in and start playing right away, with no restrictions or progression needed. It’s split into three distinct districts, each inspired by a different part of the world – the UK, France, and Argentina. The attention to detail in each district is impressive, with architecture and visuals that really make you feel like you’re running around urban London, Liverpool, or Manchester. And with plenty of things to do, including different types of games like solo play, 3v3 matches, and more, you’ll never be bored.
Gameplay and Features
One of my favorite parts of EA SPORTS FC 27 is something called Dropkicks, where you have to smash targets on walls, balconies, and in the air by drop-kicking the ball into them. It’s a blast, and I found myself searching high and low for as many targets as I could find. The Grounds also brings other game options, like 2v2s, 3v3s, RUSH, and more, including a mode called Balloon-Ball, which is a 1v1v1v1 mode where each player starts with three balloons and tries to kick their ball into other players to remove a balloon. It’s a great way to play with friends or meet new people, and the devs have made it easy to find and join games with others.
Expansion and Authenticity
The best part about The Grounds is that it’s set up to be expanded, with new national identities and areas to explore. The devs are focused on making The Grounds as authentic an experience as possible, with plenty of research and attention to detail going into each district. As The Grounds Producer Karthik Venkateshan said, “The most authentic football experience is the brand and identity of the whole product. So that meant that the districts also had to kind of have that heart in it, and that takes time and lots of research…” It’s clear that the team is dedicated to making The Grounds a unique and enjoyable experience, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together.
In conclusion, EA SPORTS FC 27’s The Grounds is a game-changer, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a sucker for a good sports game. It’s a fresh take on the genre, with a focus on community and fun that’s hard to find elsewhere. So, if you’re looking for a new way to play sports games, be sure to check out The Grounds when EA SPORTS FC 27 launches in September. And don’t forget to pre-order your copy now, because trust me, you won’t want to miss out on this one.
