Oh joy, another conference, another slew of announcements from Crunchyroll that will inevitably clog up my already overflowing watchlist. I mean, who needs a social life when you’ve got a never-ending stream of anime to keep you company? At New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll showed off a few fresh faces, including a new look at Sekiro: No Defeat, an anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s notoriously difficult game, because what’s more fun than watching someone else suffer through a tough boss fight? They also teased Kagurabachi, which is set to hit the platform next year, because who doesn’t love a good mystery? And, of course, there was an early look at the in-development trailer for Ghost of Tsushima Legends, because multiplayer is all the rage these days, even if it does mean I’ll have to dust off my old gaming headset and pretend to be interested in teamwork.
The all-star team behind Legends was also announced, featuring an array of talented folks, including director Takanobu Mizuno, Gen Urobuchi handling series composition and script, and Takashi Okazaki as character designer. I mean, it’s not like they’re just throwing a bunch of big names at the project to generate hype or anything (cough, cough, EA, cough). The team’s credentials are certainly impressive, with credits ranging from NITRO PLUS to Star Wars Visions, so maybe, just maybe, this adaptation will be worth watching.
Now, onto the trailers we can actually watch, because let’s be real, that’s what we’re all here for. There’s The Remarried Empress, which looks like your standard fare of romance, drama, and possibly a few too many cliches. Then there’s Teenage Mercenary, which seems to be trying to capture the essence of a particular type of action-packed anime, with a healthy dose of melodrama thrown in for good measure. The Boxer, on the other hand, appears to be taking a more philosophical approach, questioning the nature of talent and hard work in the world of boxing. And, of course, there’s EAT-MAN, which… well, I’m not entirely sure what’s going on there, but it looks like it might be interesting?
Other notable mentions include Here U Are, which seems to be a sweet, if not entirely original, romance; Everyone’s Darling Has a Secret, which looks like it could be a fun, lighthearted watch; Magical Buffs: The Supporter Caster Is Stronger Than He Realized!, which appears to be a fantasy adventure with a twist; and Berserk of Gluttony Season 2, because who doesn’t love a good fantasy epic? And let’s not forget The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy At All, which looks like it could be a fun, if not entirely surprising, twist on the traditional romance genre.
In conclusion, it’s clear that Crunchyroll is bringing their A-game (or at least, their B-game) to the table, with a diverse range of shows that are sure to cater to all manner of tastes. So, if you’re an anime fan, you’ve got a lot to look forward to in the coming months. And if you’re not an anime fan… well, you might want to consider becoming one, because it’s not like you’ve got anything better to do with your time. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a watchlist to attend to. Or, rather, a watchlist to try and keep up with, as it slowly devours my soul.
