OMG!😱 Mega Evolution is making a comeback in 2025, because apparently, the Pokémon Company thinks we haven’t suffered enough. Pokémon TCG Pocket, that game you probably forgot existed, is dragging it back with the Mega Rising expansion during its first anniversary, because nothing says “celebration” like resurrecting a dead mechanic. Oh, and they’re throwing in some “good quality” updates, because they know they need to bribe us somehow.
The triumphant return (or should we say, unwelcome re-emergence?) of Mega Evolution in Pokémon TCG Pocket is almost upon us. After the *cough* “success” *cough* of its revival in Pokémon Legends: Z-A (which is totally not just another excuse to sell us the same game again), this mobile title is jumping on the bandwagon. They announced Mega Evolution is invading the digital tabletops of TCG Pocket, because who needs real cards when you can have pixels? We now know when the Mega Rising expansion is dropping, and The Pokémon Company even blessed us with a trailer. Watch it below, if you dare:
Just like those totally-not-forgettable Genetic Apex (A1) series, the Mega Rising expansion is shoving three face booster packs down our throats: Mega Gyarados, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Altaria. Because who needs variety when you can have more of the same? Each pack comes with those oh-so-powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards. But here’s the catch: using these cards is basically digital Russian roulette. If your Mega Pokémon ex gets knocked out, congrats, you lose instantly! Your opponent gets three points, and you get a face full of disappointment. The Mega Rising expansion launches on October 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. EST, so mark your calendars if you’re into self-inflicted pain.🗓️
But wait, there’s more! 🎉 Besides the Mega Rising expansion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is also patting itself on the back for hitting 150 million downloads. Wow, people really have nothing better to do, huh? To celebrate, they’re blessing us with “updates,” including a “revamp” to the totally-not-awful trading system. Prepare for even more frustration and disappointment, now with a fresh coat of paint!🎨
- Giving Friends Cards! – On Oct. 30, 2025, you can now give cards to your “friends” (if you have any who still play this game). You can share those super-common cards to friends! Yes, you can share ONE card per friend per day. How generous! And yes it includes the latest expansion!
- Trading: A Whole New Level of Disappointment – Get ready to trade cards from the latest expansions (without limitations), as well as booster packs! Because what’s more fun than hoping for something good and getting absolutely nothing? You can now trade those rare cards but you have to trade to get them too!
- Wonder Pick: Still Wondering Why It Exists? – After the update, you’ll see unobtained cards from the latest expansion more often. Hooray! And they’ll even show you how many of each card you already own. Because knowing you’re only missing one more of a useless card makes it so much better. 🤡
So, the Mega Rising expansion and the card-sharing feature are coming soon, but the other “amazing” features are coming “soon.” As always, thanks Pokémon Company! Check out the official Pokémon website for more disappointment!
