Oh boy, are you guys ready for some drama? 😱 Because I’ve got a whole lot of it to dish out, courtesy of the latest update on the upcoming Soundgarden album! 🤯 Kim Thayil, the band’s guitarist, has been spilling all the tea in a recent interview with Chris Sernel of Oh, Hush! Reads, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. 🎢
So, it turns out that the remaining members of Soundgarden, including Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd, are hard at work on completing the album they started with the late Chris Cornell before his passing in 2017. 🙏 And, as you can imagine, it’s been an emotional journey for all of them. 💔 Thayil described the process as “forensic in nature,” where they have to “fill in the holes and complete” the songs using the demos and ideas they had worked on with Cornell. 🔍
But, of course, it’s not all smooth sailing. 🌪️ I mean, have you seen the drama that’s been going on between the band and Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell? 🤯 It’s like a never-ending soap opera! 📺 They’ve been fighting over the rights to the unreleased recordings, with Vicky claiming that the band owes Chris’s estate hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid royalties. 💸 And, let’s be real, it’s all about the money, honey! 💸
Anyway, back to the album. 🎶 Thayil said that they’re building on the things that Cornell did complete, using his vocals and guitar parts to create something new. 🎸 And, from what we’ve heard, it’s going to be a real treat for fans. 🎁 Cameron even mentioned that one of the songs, “The Road Less Traveled,” is a real standout, with Cornell’s vocals and lyrics taking center stage. 🙌
The Album: A Labor of Love
Thayil emphasized that the album is a labor of love, and that they’re doing it for the fans and for Cornell’s legacy. 💕 He said, “It’s very, very important to all of us. It’s important for the legacy of Soundgarden. It’s important for the legacy of Chris Cornell.” 🙏 And, let’s be real, it’s not like they’re doing it for the money or anything. 🤑 Although, let’s be real, the money is probably a nice bonus. 💸
But, in all seriousness, it’s clear that the band is pouring their hearts and souls into this album. 💖 They’re working with producer Terry Date, who’s previously worked with them on some of their most iconic albums, including “Louder Than Love” and “Badmotorfinger.” 🎸 And, from what we’ve heard, the album is going to be a real game-changer. 🤯
A New Chapter for Soundgarden
Thayil also talked about the possibility of performing again with Cameron and Shepherd, saying that they like playing together and that it’s a window of opportunity for them to share their music with each other. 🎸 And, who knows, maybe they’ll even tour again! 🎟️ Although, let’s be real, it’s not going to be the same without Cornell. 🙏
But, hey, at least they’re doing something, right? 🤷♂️ I mean, it’s not like they’re just sitting around twiddling their thumbs, waiting for the drama to die down. 🙄 They’re out there making music, and that’s what it’s all about, folks! 🎶
So, there you have it. 🎉 The latest update on the upcoming Soundgarden album, and all the drama that comes with it. 🤯 Stay tuned, folks, it’s going to be a wild ride! 🎢🎸🔥
