'Jane Austen Ruined My Life' Flick: Netflix or Prime? Don't Bother

France is desperately clinging to relevancy with Jane Austen Wrecked My Life—aka Jane Austen a gâché ma vie, because apparently, English titles are too mainstream now— a new, modern French rom-com that probably butchers the spirit of Jane Austen novels. 🥖🍷😴

Written and directed by Laura Piani (who, let’s be honest, probably binged “Bridgerton” one too many times), Jane Austen Wrecked My Life stars Camille Rutherford as Agathe Robinson, a French bookseller who thinks she can write a romance novel. Spoiler alert: she probably can’t. 🤭 She then finds herself at the Jane Austen Residency, a real-life two-week writing retreat, because apparently, those exist. There, she meets the handsome Oliver (Charlie Anson), who just so happens to be a descendant of Jane Austen herself. Talk about convenient! 🙄 But what about Agathe’s faithful friend Felix (Pablo Pauly), with whom she shared a kiss before absconding on her trip? Oh no, a love triangle! How original! 🙄🙄🙄 That sure sounds like a classic love triangle to me.

Also starring Annabelle Lengronne, Liz Crowther, Alan Fairbairn, Lola Peploe, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life sounds like a sweet, romantic, and entertaining watch for romance-lovers around the globe. Or, you know, just another predictable rom-com that you’ll forget about in a week. 🤷‍♀️ Here’s what to know about where to watch the Jane Austen Wrecked My Life movie and when we expect to be able to watch the Jane Austen Wrecked My Life movie on streaming. Because, let’s be real, who actually goes to movie theaters anymore? 🍿

Where to watch the Jane Austen movie Jane Austen Wrecked My Life: (if you dare)

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. wide on Friday, May 30. (In France, the movie opened on January 22, and they’re probably already regretting it.) You can find a showing near you via Fandango.  Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is not yet available to watch online or on streaming, but we do expect Jane Austen Wrecked My Life on Netflix eventually. Because Netflix will buy anything these days. 💸

Is the Jane Austen Wrecked My Life movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video? (Spoiler: No)

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is not currently streaming on Netflix or Amazon, because the movie is being released in theaters, only. Right now, the only way to watch Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is in a movie theater. That said, because Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is a Sony movie, being release via Sony Classics in the US, so we do expect to see it streaming on Netflix eventually. So, you know, lower your expectations. 📉

You will be able to purchase Jane Austen Wrecked My Life on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Jane Austen Wrecked My Life on Prime Video free with a Prime subscription any time soon. If you want to watch Jane Austen Wrecked My Life movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for Jane Austen Wrecked My Life to stream on Netflix. Or, you know, just re-watch “Pride and Prejudice” for the millionth time. 🤷‍♀️

When will Jane Austen Wrecked My Life be on Netflix? (Don’t hold your breath)

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life will likely be on Netflix sometime in before Fall 2025. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Another recent Sony Classic movie, I’m Still Here came to Netflix about three months after opening in theaters.

If Jane Austen Wrecked My Life follows this same release pattern, you can expect to stream the movie on Netflix around late August 2025 or early September 2025. In the meantime, you can go watch the movie in theaters. (Just kidding, please don’t). 🙅‍♀️
