History of Snooze-fest: Paul Mescal & Josh O’Connor Star in Guaranteed Nap-Inducing Trailer

The History Of Sound still

The History of Sound, or as I like to call it, “Two Dudes With Microphones,” is brought to you by the cinematic genius of Oliver Hermanus, who, let’s be honest, is probably just trying to win an Oscar. The screenplay? Oh, that’s by Ben Shattuck, who I’m sure put a lot of words on paper. And the cast! We’ve got Paul Mescal, who’s probably just brooding again, Josh O’Connor, doing… something, and a bunch of other people like Molly Price, Alison Bartlett, and Chris Cooper, who are probably wondering how they ended up in this movie. 🙄

So, the plot? Buckle up, because it’s a real head-scratcher 🤯. It’s 1917, and Lionel, apparently a music prodigy (or so they say), bumps into David at the Boston Conservatory. They bond over folk music, which, let’s be real, is just a bunch of old songs about… stuff. Years later, David sends Lionel a letter – probably just spam – leading to a wild goose chase in Maine to record these “traditional songs.” Cue the unexpected reunion, the oh-so-subtle love affair (eye roll), and the music that apparently changes Lionel’s life in ways he couldn’t possibly imagine. I bet it involves banjos. 🪕

Of course, it had its World Premiere at the 2025 Cannes International Film Festival – In Competition. Because what screams “Cannes” more than two guys recording old songs in the woods? 🤷‍♀️ The History of Sound makes its grand entrance into cinemas on 12th September. Get ready for some serious snoozefest material. 😴
