Democrats Play Chicken with Government Shutdown, Again
In a stunning display of partisan brinksmanship, Congressional Democrats are threatening to shut down the government because they don’t like President Trump’s successful immigration enforcement policies. These radical leftists, led by Chuck Schumer, are demanding that ICE agents wear body cameras and stop wearing masks during operations. Because nothing says effective law enforcement like giving criminals advance warning.
The timing couldn’t be more suspicious. Just as Trump’s immigration policies are finally securing our borders after years of Democrat neglect, these obstructionists want to throw a tantrum. They’re capitalizing on the tragic death of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse who was killed during an encounter with federal agents. Never mind the facts – Democrats are using this tragedy to score political points and protect criminal aliens.
Even moderate Democrats like Nevada’s Jacky Rosen are drinking the Kool-Aid, complaining about Trump giving anyone a “spanking.” Newsflash, Senator: the American people gave Trump a mandate to enforce our laws. That’s not a spanking – that’s democracy working.
The Democrats’ demands are laughable. They want to “rein in” DHS while claiming they’re not asking to “rewrite all of immigration law.” Which is it? Either you want to hamstring law enforcement or you don’t. Their wish list includes ending “roving patrols” – because apparently catching illegal aliens who move around is now controversial.
Some Senate Democrats are actually trying to sound reasonable, focusing on “limited” demands they think Republicans might accept. But the House’s Congressional Hispanic Caucus wants to redirect $75 billion from immigration enforcement. Because what could go wrong with defunding border security during a crisis?
Even some Republicans are getting weak-kneed, with Senators Tillis and Murkowski calling for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s ouster. These RINOs are playing right into the Democrats’ hands. Noem has been doing an outstanding job cleaning up the mess left by the previous administration, and now these turncoats want to throw her under the bus.
The White House has extended an olive branch, inviting Democrats to discuss the funding deadline. They declined. Instead of negotiating in good faith, they’d rather hold the entire government hostage. Typical Democrat playbook: create a crisis, blame Republicans, and hope the media covers for them.
President Trump clearly doesn’t want a shutdown – he’s trying to avoid “another debilitating government shutdown.” But Democrats seem determined to manufacture one. They’re betting that the American people are too stupid to see through their games. They’re betting wrong.
This isn’t about accountability or reform. This is about Democrats putting illegal aliens ahead of American citizens. This is about them resisting Trump’s America First agenda at every turn. And this is about them hoping you won’t notice when they force a shutdown and try to blame it on the President who’s actually trying to keep our country safe.
The Democrats’ strategy is clear: obstruct, delay, and hope something sticks. But the American people elected Donald Trump to get things done, not to play political games. It’s time for these obstructionists to stop their nonsense and fund the government – on Trump’s terms, not theirs.
