‘Wednesday’ Season 3 Is In Production – With Big New Stars, Including That One Guy From That Thing

wednesday season 3 everything we know so far

The internet’s favorite black-clad, death-obsessed teenager is dusting off her nevermore uniform and sharpening her cheekbones for another round of murder-mystery high school drama. That’s right, Wednesday Addams is dragging her family’s gothic baggage out of the closet (probably a very large, ornate, cobweb-covered closet) for Season 3 of Netflix’s surprise hit.

The streaming giant just announced that production has begun on the latest installment of this Addams Family spinoff, which has somehow convinced millions of people that watching a teenager solve crimes while wearing black in perpetual autumn is peak entertainment. Groundbreaking stuff, truly.

But wait—the Addams family reunion is getting even more star-studded! Winona Ryder and Eva Green are joining the madness, with Green playing “the enigmatic and ‘missing’ Aunt Ophelia, sister of Morticia Addams.” Because apparently one Morticia in the family wasn’t enough—we needed a second mysterious matriarch to really complete the aesthetic. Catherine Zeta-Jones is back as Morticia, Luis Guzmán continues to be the most lovable Gomez since Raul Julia, Fred Armisen is still Uncle Fester-ing around, and of course, Jenna Ortega remains Wednesday-ing harder than anyone else on television.

Series co-creator Alfred Gough told Netflix’s Tudum (which sounds like a magical spell but is actually just their marketing department) that their goal is to “make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can.” Bold strategy, Cotton—let’s see if it pays off for them.

For those living under a rock (or perhaps a particularly heavy family heirloom tombstone), Season 1 of Wednesday remains Netflix’s biggest English-language series ever according to their own metrics. With 252.1 million views, it’s beaten out actual competition and sits comfortably at #1. Season 2, despite existing in fifth place with a measly 119.3 million views, apparently still warranted another season. The math tracks, obviously.

Director Tim Burton, who seems to have found his spiritual home in this show after decades of making movies about pale people with daddy issues, shared his enthusiasm: “I’m so excited to be back for Season 3 and it’s great to be reunited with all of the original cast. The addition of some dear friends and past collaborators of mine—Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah… makes this season extra special.” Ah yes, because what Wednesday Addams really needed was more famous people hanging around Nevermore Academy, presumably blocking the narrow hallways with their voluminous capes.

The cameras are rolling in Dublin, Ireland, because apparently the actual Addams mansion is located somewhere between a pub and a castle. Fans can expect Season 3 to drop whenever Netflix decides they need another viral dance trend to boost their stock price.

In the meantime, you can always revisit the first two seasons on Netflix, where Wednesday continues to prove that being a morbid teenager with supernatural powers is somehow both relatable and aspirational. Truly, we are living in the golden age of television. ✨
