Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about a shootout at a food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle, and I’ve got to say, it’s a wild story. A 15-year-old kid was arrested after the shooting, and police say he was armed with a ghost gun – you know, one of those homemade firearms that lack serial numbers. This particular gun had an extended magazine, because, you know, 33 rounds just aren’t enough. The police chief, Shon Barnes, said the kid surrendered to police, and the magazine still had 19 rounds in it. I’m no expert, but that sounds like a whole lot of ammo for a 15-year-old to be carrying around.
The shooting happened at the Bite of Seattle festival, which sounds like a great event – who doesn’t love food? – but unfortunately, it turned into a scene from a action movie. Three people were killed, including a 19-year-old gunman, and at least four people were injured, including a toddler. I mean, a toddler – that’s just heartbreaking. The police are still investigating, but they think the violence was gang-related. They’re reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses, trying to figure out what happened.
Now, I know some people are going to start talking about gun control, and I get that. But let’s be real, ghost guns are a problem because they’re not traceable. The police can’t figure out who made them or where they came from. It’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack, except the needle is a gun and the haystack is a whole bunch of other guns. The police found two other guns at the scene, including a Glock 45 with a switch that allows it to fire fully automatically. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you need in a crowded food festival – a gun that can fire automatically.
The victims of the shooting are starting to be identified, and it’s just sad. There was a 44-year-old husband and father of three, a 56-year-old woman who was just enjoying the festival with her daughter, and a 19-year-old kid who died from multiple gunshot wounds. The community is coming together to support the families of the victims, which is great to see. There was a vigil on Monday night, with candles and flowers and a moment of silence. It’s just a reminder that, despite all the craziness in the world, there’s still a lot of good out there.
As I’m reading about this story, I’m just shaking my head. It’s like, what is wrong with people? Can’t we all just get along? I guess that’s just naive, but I think we can all agree that shooting up a food festival is not the answer to whatever problem you’re having. Anyway, that’s my two cents on this story.
