I mean, what’s going on here? According to court documents, Walsh strangled her son to death, and when police found her, she was bloodied and had apparently cut herself with a knife. She told them Barrett was the “devil” and “anti-Christ.” Okay, this is just getting weird.
Walsh had been invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, which is a whole other can of worms. Clancy was charged with killing her three children in Massachusetts, and her defense team said she was suffering from post-partum psychosis. Now, I’m not a doctor, but it seems like we’ve got a similar situation here with Walsh. Witnesses told police she had been talking about the Clancy trial nonstop in a group chat with friends until the moment her son was found unresponsive. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
The Illinois case is just heartbreaking. Police found Barrett in the basement of the family’s home with a cord around his neck. Walsh’s husband was out of state at the time, and the other kids in the home were unharmed. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had never been called to the Walsh home before, which makes you wonder what was going on behind closed doors. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a national news story on our hands.
The prosecutors are going all out on this one, filing three first-degree murder counts against Walsh under different legal theories. They’re saying she poses a threat to her husband and living children, and I don’t blame them one bit. The Frankfort Police Department is calling it a “heartbreaking tragedy,” and Walsh’s attorney is saying she was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the incident. Bless their hearts, this is just a mess.
The Clancy case, which sparked a debate about maternal mental health, ended in a mistrial, and now prosecutors are deciding whether to pursue a second trial. I mean, what’s the point of rehashing all this? It’s just a sad, sad situation all around.
