Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about a 40-year-old man who was arrested for plotting to attack the Texas Capitol, and I’ve got to say, it’s a good thing the authorities were on top of it. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, they received “credible information” about the planned attack, which was set to happen on Thursday in Austin. I mean, can you imagine if this guy had actually gone through with it? It’s a scary thought, and I’m just glad that the SWAT team was able to make the arrest without any issues.
The tip came in on Tuesday evening, and the SWAT officers made the arrest at a residence in Converse, near San Antonio, around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspect, Benny Caldera Jr., is facing some serious charges, including felony terroristic threat against a public servant. I’m not sure what his motive was, but it’s clear that he wasn’t thinking clearly. I mean, who tries to attack a state capitol? It’s just not a good idea, folks.
The authorities are being pretty tight-lipped about the whole thing, which is understandable given that the investigation is ongoing. But it’s good to know that they’re taking it seriously and that the Capitol remained open during regular operating hours. I guess that’s just the Texas way – they’re not going to let some crazy person disrupt their daily lives. The DPS also notified state lawmakers about the threat and arrest, and there will be increased security at the Capitol during the investigation.
Texas Senate Secretary Patsy Spaw said that there will be increased security at the Capitol, which is probably a good idea. I mean, you can’t be too careful these days. And Gov. Greg Abbott said that the state DPS was assisted by the FBI in making the arrest, which is great to hear. It’s always good to see different law enforcement agencies working together to keep us safe.
The governor also made a statement on social media, saying that “Texas will NOT tolerate threats of violence against our Capitol.” I’ve got to say, I’m with him on that one. I mean, who needs that kind of drama and danger? Not me, that’s for sure. And I’m sure the people of Texas feel the same way.
In conclusion, it’s a good thing that the authorities were able to catch this guy before he could do any harm. It’s a reminder that there are still some crazy people out there, but it’s also a reminder that our law enforcement agencies are working hard to keep us safe. So let’s all just take a deep breath and be grateful that this situation was resolved without any major issues. And as I always say, you can’t make this stuff up – but thankfully, it’s not always as bad as it sounds in the news. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to refill my coffee cup.
