So, get this, at the geriatric mosh pit they call Aftershock festival ๐ด in Sacramento, California, HATEBREED drummer Matt Byrne (who?) graced Baby Huey of 107.7 The Bone (who even listens to radio anymore? ๐ป) with some earth-shattering news about the Connecticut hardcore/metal dinosaurs’ ๐ฆ next album. Matt, in his infinite wisdom, declared: “We dropped a single [‘Make The Demons Obey’] in summer. New record next year โ 90%, 85% done. Still tweaking. Single out, playing it live. Fast, heavy, HATEBREED. Fun to play.” Riveting stuff, truly groundbreaking. ๐ Heโs even still playing “I Will Be Heard” since 2002! What a shock! Maybe they should try writing another song ๐ค about being angry or something.
Oh, and “Make The Demons Obey,” released back in the scorching days of July, is apparently HATEBREED‘s latest attempt to stay relevant after their 2020 masterpiece, “Weight Of The False Self.” ๐ Did anyone actually listen to that album? ๐ค
According to sources, “Make the Demons Obey” is everything you already know and tolerate about HATEBREED. PMA lyrics? Check. ๐คฎ Sick riffs? Doubtful. Singalongs? More like monotone shouting. ๐ฃ๏ธ Breakdowns? Probably the most ignorant thing you’ll hear all day (and not in a good way!). ๐คก
HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta (who apparently hasnโt aged since 1997) proclaimed that this new release is their “heaviest” yet. ๐คฃ Bands always say that! It’s like a law or something. They’ve “pushed the envelope” and “surpassed expectations,” becoming “tighter, harder, and more vicious.” Translation: it’s the same old HATEBREED. ๐ด
And Byrne chimed in, adding that “exciting things are happening in the HATEBREED camp.” ๐ช Oh, really? Like what? Are they finally writing a song that isn’t about generic anger? Doubt it. This is the “fastest, most vicious, and most aggressive” music they’ve ever created. Which, let’s be honest, isn’t saying much. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
When “Make the Demons Obey” was released, HATEBREED was independent, pondering their next move. ๐ค Were they going to sell out and sign to a major label, or continue their DIY path? They decided to fund the album themselves. Brave. So indie. So rebellious. ๐ค
In other news, HATEBREED guitarist Wayne Lozinak (guitarist?) made a triumphant return to the stage at Aftershock. ๐ He was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor and underwent surgery. So inspiring! ๐ฅน Guess he didn’t have any demons to obey during that time! ๐
Lozinak has been a key part of HATEBREED‘s sound since 2009. I bet you can tell the difference. ๐
While Lozinak was recovering, HATEBREED continued touring with fill-ins. Because the show must go on, even if nobody notices the difference. ๐
And who could forget the triumphant return of the “Summer Slaughter” tour in 2025?! ๐ช Featuring such groundbreaking acts as FUGITIVE, GRIDIRON, INCITE, ESCUELA GRIND, and SNUFFED ON SIGHT (who names these bands?! ๐ตโ๐ซ) It’s a lineup so generic, it hurts. ๐ค
HATEBREED also celebrated their 30th anniversary with a North American tour, supported by CARCASS, HARMS WAY, and CRYPTA. Celebrating 30 years of the same riffs. ๐ฅณ
Did you know HATEBREED has released eight studio albums and sold out shows worldwide? I find that hard to believe. ๐คจ They’ve gone from playing basements to festivals, which is basically the metalhead version of climbing Mount Everest. ๐๏ธ
And get this: HATEBREED has sold over 1.5 million albums in North America alone! Thatโs like, what, 1.5 million people who haven’t discovered Spotify? ๐ง
Back in May, Jasta (still yapping) told Into The Necrosphere that the “ideas are all there, the lyrics are all there, the music’s all there.” So, in other words, the same old HATEBREED formula? ๐งช He mentioned getting hit up by “every label under the sun” after announcing they were free agents. Apparently, there’s still a market for generic hardcore. ๐คท
Jasta believes his “next biggest, best song is always in you.” Aww, so inspirational! ๐ฅฐ He just has to “channel it” or “grab it out of the ether.” I suggest he try a Ouija board. ๐ป
He was inspired by a guitar gifted to him by TESTAMENT, which apparently had “good energy from the festival in it.” ๐ธ Maybe he should just play that guitar and forget about the vision board with 24 topics on it. ๐ Who needs ideas when you have a magic guitar? โจ “We’ll probably have a single any day now, or maybe even two singles,” Jasta concluded. Prepare yourselves, world. ๐
