I’m sipping on my coffee, and I just can’t help but raise an eyebrow at the latest news from the Supreme Court. Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett are set to testify before Congress, which is a rare occurrence, to ask for more funding for security. Apparently, there’s been a surge in threats against the justices, and they’re looking for an additional $29 million to beef up their security detail. I mean, who wouldn’t want a little extra protection, right? It’s not like they’re asking for a private island or something, just a bit more money to make sure they don’t get, you know, killed or anything.
Now, I’m no expert, but it seems like a reasonable request to me. I mean, we’re talking about the Supreme Court here, not some local town hall meeting. These are the people who get to decide the fate of our country, and we want to make sure they can do their job without worrying about some crazy person showing up at their doorstep. Kagan even mentioned that the threats have gotten pretty close to home, and I can only imagine how unsettling that must be.
The judiciary is asking for nearly $921 million for security overall, which includes an increase of almost $15 million to protect the justices and their families. That’s a pretty penny, but I guess it’s worth it if it means keeping them safe. I’m sure it’s not easy being a Supreme Court justice, especially with all the controversy surrounding some of their decisions. Just think about it, these people have to make life-or-death decisions, and then they have to worry about their own lives being in danger. It’s a tough job, folks.
Kagan also talked about how the security posture at the high court has changed since she joined in 2010. Back then, she didn’t have a personal security team, and only had security personnel with her during public events. But now, it’s a whole different ball game. I guess that’s what happens when you’re dealing with a lot of angry people who don’t agree with your decisions. It’s like, I get it, people are passionate about their beliefs, but come on, threatening the justices? That’s just not cool.
There was that one incident in 2022 where a woman showed up at Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s neighborhood with a bunch of guns and other weapons, intending to kill him. I mean, what is wrong with people? That’s just crazy. And now, she’s serving time in prison, which is where she belongs. It’s just scary to think about what could have happened if she had succeeded.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. I’m sure the justices will get their funding, and they’ll be able to rest a little easier at night. But still, it’s a shame that it has to come to this. Can’t we all just get along? I guess that’s just the world we live in now, where people feel like they can just threaten and intimidate others to get what they want. It’s a sad state of affairs, folks.
In conclusion, the Supreme Court justices are asking for more security funding, and I think it’s a reasonable request. They’re not asking for the moon here, just a bit more protection to ensure they can do their job without worrying about their safety. And let’s be real, if I were in their shoes, I’d want all the security I could get. I mean, who wouldn’t want a team of burly men and women following them around everywhere they go? It’s like having your own personal bodyguard, and who wouldn’t want that? 😊
