Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about a Secret Service agent who’s in hot water for allegedly leaking info about Vice President JD Vance’s travel schedule. Apparently, this agent was suspected of being a source for a news story on MS NOW that talked about the burden Vance’s personal travel has put on his security team. I mean, who wouldn’t want to leak that kind of juicy info, right? It’s not like it’s a national security issue or anything… oh wait, it totally is.
So, it seems that the story included details about Vance’s planned travel, including a trip with his son on a Marine Corps helicopter to a golf lesson. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the Secret Service is for – to escort the VP’s kid to golf lessons. I’m sure it’s a real challenge to keep that kind of thing under wraps. The story also mentioned that the plans were later aborted, but not before the Secret Service, FBI, and White House officials got their undies in a twist over operational details being shared with the press.
Now, I’m not saying that the agent didn’t screw up, but it’s just so… typical. The Trump administration is all about cracking down on unauthorized disclosures, and this just plays right into their hands. I mean, earlier this month, four reporters from The New York Times got subpoenas to testify before a federal grand jury about their reporting on security features onboard a new presidential aircraft. It’s like, what’s next? Are they going to start suing reporters for asking too many questions?
The Secret Service has put the agent on administrative leave and is conducting an internal review, because, of course, they have to do something. And MS NOW isn’t commenting, because why would they? They got their scoop, and now they’re just going to sit back and enjoy the drama. CNN has reached out to the Secret Service for comment, but I’m sure they’ll just get some bland statement about how they’re “looking into the matter.”
