Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. President Donald Trump has banned three news outlets – CNN, MS NOW, and Politico – from the White House, and now they’re suing the administration to restore their access. I mean, you can’t blame them for trying, right? The emergency request is set to go before federal Judge Timothy J. Kelly, who just so happens to be a Trump-appointee in the DC District Court. I’m sure that won’t be a factor in his decision at all.
The outlets are claiming that the ban is a direct assault on the First Amendment, and I have to admit, that’s a pretty bold move by Trump. I mean, who needs a free press when you’ve got social media, right? The lawsuit is asking the court to act immediately to revive their journalists’ access to the White House, because, you know, they have a right to be there and report on all the exciting things that happen in the White House. Like press conferences and… well, more press conferences.
The outlets said in their lawsuit, “This ban could not be a more direct assault on the First Amendment nor a more blatant violation of our most fundamental constitutional principles.” Wow, that’s some strong language right there. Trump, on the other hand, has denied that the ban is a violation of the First Amendment, because, you know, he’s a genius and knows more about the Constitution than any expert. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a full-blown media frenzy on our hands.
Trump took to his social media account to post a statement, because that’s what presidents do these days, right? He said, “The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America.” Okay, got it. So, it’s not an assault on the free press, it’s just an assault on the fake news. That clears things up.

Trump says it’s not a big deal, and the outlets say it’s a huge deal. And that’s where we are right now.
In conclusion, this whole situation is a big mess, and I’m not sure how it’s all going to play out. But one thing’s for sure – it’s going to be entertaining to watch.
