Oh boy, the drama never ends with MÖTLEY CRÜE 🤯! I just spilled my beer all over my shirt after reading the latest news about the band’s alleged use of pre-recorded tapes during their concerts. Apparently, some people think that Nikki Sixx and the gang are just pretending to play their instruments on stage 🤷♂️. I mean, who needs actual talent when you can just press play, right? 🎤
So, it all started when a fan asked Nikki Sixx on X (formerly Twitter) why MÖTLEY CRÜE uses backing tracks during their shows. And, honestly, I was expecting some kind of witty response or a defensive rant, but instead, Nikki just laid it out plain and simple: “Since we saw QUEEN using some to help during the song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ live, we understood that we could bring in elements that we could not do live like orchestras, saxophones, etc., etc. and sync them up with what we are playing and we do play 100% live. And it’s better for the fans and we enjoy being able to do what we did in the Studio live. It’s a win win for us.” Hmm, sounds like a pretty reasonable explanation to me 🤔.
But, of course, not everyone is buying it. I mean, there are still some people out there who think that MÖTLEY CRÜE is just a bunch of old guys who can’t play their instruments anymore 🙄. And, to be fair, some of the band’s former members have made some pretty shady comments about the band’s use of backing tracks. Like, remember when John Corabi, the ex-lead singer of MÖTLEY CRÜE, said that he wouldn’t be surprised if the band was using pre-recorded tracks during their shows? Yeah, that was a real bombshell 🤯.
But What Do The Other Band Members Say?
Well, according to John 5, the band’s current guitarist, MÖTLEY CRÜE is definitely playing 100% live. In a recent interview with the Thinking About Guitar podcast, John 5 said: “Everything — Nikki is playing every note up there, but it’s so funny that people don’t wanna accept that. They’ll be, like, ‘Oh, his hands aren’t even on the bass,’ and it’ll be up in the air. But it’s, like, he’s fretting a note, or it’s he’ll have this arm up, but he’s picking with this hand.” Okay, John, we get it, Nikki is a bass-playing genius 🙌.
But, seriously, it’s not like MÖTLEY CRÜE is the only band that uses backing tracks. I mean, come on, it’s pretty common practice in the music industry these days 🤷♂️. And, let’s be real, it’s not like the band is trying to fool anyone. They’re just trying to put on the best show possible for their fans 🎸.

And, of course, no discussion of MÖTLEY CRÜE would be complete without mentioning the drama surrounding Mick Mars’ departure from the band 🤯. I mean, it’s been a whole thing, with lawsuits and counter-lawsuits flying back and forth 🚀. But, at the end of the day, it’s all just a big show, right? 🎭
