PAPA ROACH, those lovable elder statesmen of nu-metal (👴🏼), are back with a brand new banger called “Braindead”, featuring Toby Morse from H2O, because apparently, Jacoby Shaddix hasn’t annoyed enough people on his own yet. The track will be unleashed upon the world at midnight EST on June 25, so mark your calendars and prepare for the sonic equivalent of a sugar rush followed by a massive headache. 🤕
“Braindead”, which I’m sure is totally not a reflection of their fanbase, is described as a “fierce, high-octane anthem.” Translation: it’s loud, repetitive, and probably features some questionable rapping. They say it “pulls zero punches,” but let’s be real, PAPA ROACH hasn’t thrown a decent punch since 2000. This sonic explosion supposedly declares, “You’ve got one life, one chance, one shot, I don’t wanna waste it like I’m feeling braindead.” Profound, isn’t it? 🙄 Maybe they should try using their one life to write a song that doesn’t sound like it was rejected from a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtrack.
Of course, because it’s 2024, the release is accompanied by a lyric video, because who needs creativity when you can just slap some words on a screen? A full music video is coming in July, so get ready for some awkward band poses and maybe a cameo from a skateboarding dog. 🐕
PAPA ROACH frontman Jacoby Shaddix, who apparently still thinks it’s cool to wear backwards hats, said: “We wanted to create something that felt urgent, honest, and in your face.” I think he meant “derivative, predictable, and mildly irritating.” He also claims that bringing Toby in “took it to the next level.” The next level of what? Mediocrity? 💀
Morse chimed in with: “I’ve known Jacoby for over 20 years. Very proud of him with his sobriety.” Ah, yes, the obligatory sobriety shout-out. Gotta keep that squeaky-clean image intact, even though everyone remembers those early 2000s shenanigans. He continues, “Their passion and hard work is why they are still here and relevant today.” Relevant? To whom? Juggalos? 🤡 “They also live by the ‘one life, one chance’ motto. So it’s a true honor to be on ‘Braindead’ sharing these words that we all live by.” I’m sure your mom is proud, Toby. 🥲
Fresh off their sold-out U.K. tour (mostly sold-out, anyway), which included their first-ever show at Wembley Arena (probably half-empty), Shaddix and his bandmates are “riding high” as they gear up for their forthcoming album. Riding high on what, exactly? Nostalgia? 🤣 The album is set to include “Braindead”, so prepare yourselves.
