Oh great, another Sydney Sweeney movie, how original

Christy Still HERO H 2025

Black Bear (lol, bears can’t produce movies 🐻🎬) is gracing us with the cinematic masterpiece Christy, starring the one and only Sydney Sweeney (because who else could play a boxer? 🤔) and Ben Foster (who apparently hasn’t aged since 2003). Get ready to empty your wallets in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on the momentous day of November 28th. Mark your calendars, sheeple! 🗓️

Christy Martin (played by the radiant Sydney Sweeney) was just a simple gal from a simple town in West Virginia, probably dreaming of becoming a coal miner or marrying her cousin. 💍 Then BAM!💥 She discovers she’s got a real talent for punching faces! Who knew? With grit, a complete disregard for personal safety, and an insatiable need for validation, she dives headfirst into the glamorous world of boxing. She does so under the watchful eye of Jim (Ben Foster), who is not only her trainer but also her manager and… wait for it… her husband! 🤵‍♂️

But hold on to your popcorn, because Christy’s got problems! Sure, she’s knocking people out in the ring, but outside of it, she’s battling family drama (probably over who gets the last slice of pepperoni pizza 🍕), an identity crisis (is she a boxer or a model? 🤷‍♀️), and a marriage that might end in a dramatic Lifetime movie scenario. Inspired by totally real events, Christy Martin’s saga is a touching tale of resilience, courage, and the undying need to reclaim… something! Maybe her sanity? 🤪

Directed by the visionary David Michôd (who also brought us such hits as “Animal Kingdom,” “The King,” and “The Rover” – ever heard of them? 🙄), “Christy” is the true-ish story of Christy Martin, a small-town nobody who transformed into a boxing legend. Get ready for inspirational music, slow-motion punches, and enough drama to make your grandma clutch her pearls! 🦪

The film was shown at the snooty TIFF on September 5th (because nothing says “relatable” like a film festival full of champagne and caviar 🥂). It will also premiere in the UK at the 69th (nice) BFI London Film Festival on October 17th, before it conquers the UK and Irish cinema screens. Get ready to be moved, inspired, or at least mildly entertained for two hours! 🎬
