Edgar Wright, the guy who peaked with “Shaun of the Dead” 🧟♂️ (let’s be real, “Baby Driver” was just okay 🙄), has decided to grace us with his “genius” take on The Running Man. Teaming up with Michael Bacall, because one mediocre mind is never enough, they’re bringing us a screenplay based on some book 📚 by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman because even HE was embarrassed by it). Remember the 1987 masterpiece 🎬 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger? Yeah, well, forget about it. This is going to be SO much better… or so they want you to think 🤣.
In a dystopian future (because originality is dead 💀), The Running Man is TV’s hottest garbage 🔥. Contestants, called Runners (creative, I know 🧠), have to survive for 30 days while being hunted by “professional” assassins (probably just failed actors with grudges). Each move is broadcast to a bloodthirsty public (that’s you, dummies 🫵), and each day brings more cash 💰. Our hero, Ben Richards (played by Glen Powell, who’s probably wondering what career choices led him here 🤔), is desperate to save his sick daughter (cue the violins 🎻). So, he enters the game after being convinced by the show’s producer, Dan Killian (played by Josh Brolin, slumming it for a paycheck 💸). But Ben’s “defiance, instincts, and grit” (eye roll 🙄) turn him into a fan favorite and a “threat to the entire system” (as if). As ratings skyrocket (because everyone loves a train wreck 💥), Ben has to outwit the Hunters and a nation addicted to watching him fail (spoiler alert: he probably wins 🏆).
Oh, but the cast doesn’t stop there! We’ve got Glen Powell (Mr. Desperate for a Hit), Katy O’Brian (who?), Daniel Ezra (another one?), Karl Glusman (seriously, who ARE these people? 🤷), Josh Brolin (okay, he’s cool 😎), Lee Pace (where has he been hiding? 🔦), Jayme Lawson (is she related to Beyonce? 🤔), Michael Cera (still playing the awkward guy, I see 🤓), Emilia Jones (hope she can act 🤞), William H. Macy (desperate for work? 💼), David Zayas (that guy from that thing 📺), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace is over, buddy 👋), and Colman Domingo (finally, some actual talent ✨).
Prepare yourselves, because The Running Man is scheduled to “grace” theaters on November 14th, 2025. Mark your calendars, folks! Or, you know, just re-watch the Schwarzenegger version and save yourself the disappointment. 😌
