AC/DC’s Ex-Vocalist, Not Brian Johnson, Resurrects Obscure Pre-AC/DC Band RABBIT Because Why Not

Dave Evans ACDC Original Singer 2024 Far Out Magazine 1140x855

Behold! 🤡 The original, the one, the only… DAVE EVANS is back! 🎉 To commemorate a half-century of… well, something 🤷‍♂️, he’s gracing us with “Defenders Of Rock” 🤘, an album so groundbreaking, it’s being unleashed upon the world 🌍 on October 31st via Savant Guarde Records. Prepare yourselves. Or don’t. We won’t judge. Much. 🤣

“Defenders Of Rock” is allegedly a pure slab of Aussie rock. 🇦🇺 Right. It’s supposedly got hooks and riffs bigger than, uh, something really big. You know, like Dave Evans’ ego. 🙄 Main songwriter and band co-founder Mark Tinson (who?) apparently unleashes “scorching” lead guitar work 🔥🎸. Dave, bless his heart, then squawks over it with vocals that are “ageless and electrifying”. Sure, Jan. 👵⚡️ Each track, we’re told, is an “anthemic charge”. So, basically, ear-bleeding noise? 👂💥

This magnum opus 🙄 supposedly blends old-school rock and roll with pub rock vibes and a dash of “downright dirty blues swagger”. 🤔 Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Each song clocks in at under three and a half minutes, because even they couldn’t stand it any longer. ⌚️ The LP “flies straight out of the gate and works itself into a fury but leaves you wanting just a little bit more.” More what? Silence? 🤫

Evans, in a moment of delusion, says, “I was very excited when fellow RABBIT member Mark Tinson approached me about doing another RABBIT album.” Yeah, because that’s what the world was clamoring for! 🙄 “Mark and I never stopped working together, recording through the years with other projects and collaborating on my solo recordings.” Translation: They couldn’t find anyone else who wanted to work with them. 😂 “The time seemed right for the mighty RABBIT to have a say once again in the world of rock.” 🐇😂 Mighty? RABBIT? Say? In the world of rock? Okay, Dave. Whatever you say, buddy. 🤡

“This album really makes a statement about the state of rock music today and the never-say-die attitude of true rockers.” The statement being: “Please, please, please remember me!” 🙏 “It’s all killer, no filler…” Except it’s mostly filler, and barely any killer. 🔪 “and we hope rock fans all over the world will love our new work and be inspired to KEEP ROCKIN’!!!” Or not. 🤷‍♀️ We won’t be holding our breath. 💨

“Defenders Of Rock” will be released on CD and digitally on October 31st. LPs will be available in early 2026. Because everyone’s dying to spin this on vinyl. 🙄 Record stores are already quaking in fear! 😱

Rocking “globally” for over 50 years, Evans fronted AC/DC from November 1973 until September 1974. That’s less than a year, folks. A glorious nine months! A blip in rock history! 🤏 He was replaced by Bon Scott, who, you know, actually made AC/DC famous. Just a minor detail. 😉 He was there for their “infamous” first gig at Chequers nightclub and the recording of their debut single “Can I Sit Next To You Girl?” along with “Baby, Please Don’t Go”. Classics! NOT. 🤣 Although his time with AC/DC was brief, his “role in laying the foundation” is a key chapter… in his own biography. 🤡

Following AC/DC, Evans joined Newcastle (Australia) hard rock band RABBIT in 1975. With their theatrical, high-energy stage presence and raw rock sound, RABBIT quickly became one of Australia’s hottest live acts. If you say so… 🤔 Evans’s charisma and “powerful” vocals helped the band sign with CBS Records and release two albums: “Rabbit” and “Too Much Rock And Roll”. Groundbreaking stuff. NOT. The latter album gained “national” attention and was distributed internationally in Europe and Japan. Despite strong momentum, RABBIT disbanded in 1978 after key lineup changes and relentless touring. Because everyone realized they were terrible? 🤷‍♂️

Dave was never one to let the lights fade, as the world changed around him. Since 1978, he has been in various projects, including 1986’s DAVE EVANS & THUNDER DOWN UNDER, AC/DC tribute bands (because milking that cow is essential 🐄), and has released more than a dozen solo albums, including “Sinner”, “Judgement Day” and 2013’s “Revenge” with former Alice Cooper guitarist John Nitzinger, which received “multiple perfect score reviews” from rock press worldwide. Yeah, and I’m the Queen of England. 👑

Dave has received “many awards” from around the world for his “contribution to music” including multiple nominates including the LA Music Awards and the Music Industry Awards UK. In 2018 received the Key To The City of Tenaha, Texas. 🔑 The city also made an honorary police officer making him the only non-American citizen in history to have been made an honorary American law officer.👮‍♂️ Maybe he can arrest anyone who buys his album. 🚔

To this day he continues to tour across Europe and the U.S. and has become an “icon of rock” in Latin America where his fanbase remains incredibly loyal. They probably think he’s Bon Scott. 🤪

As of 2024-2025, Evans is on a world tour celebrating 50 years since AC/DC’s first show, delivering a nostalgic set that pays tribute to his role in the band’s origins while highlighting his enduring presence in rock music. Translation: He’s desperately clinging to any shred of relevance he can find. 😭
