Oh boy, are you in for a treat! 🤣 Fender has just shared a new episode of “Lowdown On The Low End”, a series that’s basically just a bunch of bass players talking about bass stuff 🎸. And who’s the special guest this time? None other than the legendary Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath 🤘! He’s sitting down with Nate Mendel from Foo Fighters, and they’re trading stories about their favorite bass guitars and whatnot 🤓.
Geezer recalled the time he saw Jack Bruce from Cream play, and it totally blew his mind 🤯. He was like, “What the hell is this guy doing with a bass? I want to do that too!” 🎸. And that’s how he ended up becoming a bassist. He even swapped his Fender Telecaster for a Precision bass, because why not? 🤷♂️. He said the Precision bass had the perfect balance, and he loved the wide neck because he has fat fingers 🤪. Plus, it only has two knobs, which is great for him because he’s not exactly a tech expert 🤖.
Fender, by the way, has been revolutionizing music and culture since 1946 🎉. They’re one of the leading musical instrument manufacturers, marketers, and distributors in the world 🌎. They’ve got a bunch of brands under their belt, including Squier, Gretsch guitars, Jackson, EVH, Charvel, Bigsby, and PreSonus 🤯. And they’re all about crafting the highest-quality instruments and digital experiences for players across all genres 🎵.
Geezer, of course, is a founding member of Black Sabbath and has written some of their most iconic songs, like “War Pigs”, “Iron Man”, and “Paranoid” 🤘. He’s also a bit of a legend, having played with Ozzy Osbourne for over 50 years 🤯. They even did a final show together at Villa Park in Birmingham, which was attended by over 40,000 people and livestreamed to millions more 🌟.
But, sadly, Ozzy passed away in July 2025 🙏. Geezer wrote a heartfelt tribute to him, saying, “Goodbye dear friend- thanks for all those years- we had some great fun, 4 kids from Aston- who’d have thought, eh?” 🤗. He also reflected on their final performance together, saying it was an incredible experience and he’s grateful they got to do it one last time 🎸.
The original lineup of Black Sabbath, which included Ozzy, Geezer, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward, was a force to be reckoned with 🤘. They recorded and toured together until 1978, and then reformed periodically over the years 🎉. They even did a new album and tour in 2011, although Bill Ward dropped out due to financial issues 🤑.
And, fun fact, Brad Wilk from Rage Against the Machine played drums on their reunion album “13” 🤯. They finished their final tour, “The End”, in Birmingham in 2017, and it was a monumental occasion 🎉. Tony Iommi had been dealing with cancer, and it was their last tour because he couldn’t travel for extended periods of time 🚫.
But, hey, even though Ozzy’s gone, his legacy lives on 🙏. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once with Black Sabbath and once as a solo artist 🤘. And Geezer’s still out here, talking about bass guitars and whatnot 🎸. So, if you’re a fan of Black Sabbath or just want to learn more about bass stuff, be sure to check out this episode of “Lowdown On The Low End” 🎉.
