Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Karoline Leavitt’s return to the White House podium, and I have to say, it’s been a wild ride. Leavitt, the White House press secretary, gave her first full briefing to reporters since she went on maternity leave at the end of April, and it was a pretty low-key affair. She kicked things off by saying “Let’s get back to work,” which is just about the most straightforward thing I’ve ever heard from a politician. No fuss, no muss, just back to business as usual.
I’m reading about Leavitt’s first question, which came from an independent journalist who asked her to share her secret to “having it all” as a working mom of two children under the age of two. And you know what? Leavitt’s response was actually pretty refreshing. She said “I don’t think there is a secret. You just have to show up every day and keep going,” which is basically the most realistic advice I’ve ever heard on the subject. I mean, who needs a secret to having it all when you can just, you know, show up and do your job?
Of course, things got a bit more contentious from there, with questions about President Donald Trump’s upcoming speech on election integrity, Iran, and the economy. But Leavitt handled it all like a pro, which isn’t surprising given her reputation as one of the president’s most effective and loyal spokespeople. She’s cultivated a personal brand as a pit bull for the president and his policies, and it’s clear that she’s not afraid to tussle with reporters who ask tough questions.
I’m also reading about Leavitt’s social media presence, where she presents herself as a devoted wife and working mom. She’s always posting pictures with her husband and kids, and even baked an apple pie from scratch (which, let’s be real, is just about the most impressive thing I’ve ever heard). But as the article notes, the images belie her demanding job, which is basically the definition of “having it all” – except when you’re a working mom, and then it’s just called “surviving.”
Leavitt’s return to the podium was a big deal, especially since White House press briefings became significantly less frequent while she was on maternity leave. The press shop tried to fill the void with top officials in guest star appearances, but it was clear that they were missing their usual star. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent all took turns at the lectern, but it just wasn’t the same.
In the end, it’s good to have Leavitt back at the podium, even if it means we’ll be hearing more about the president’s latest antics. And who knows, maybe she’ll even share some more of her famous apple pie recipes with us. A guy can dream, right? So here’s to Leavitt’s return: may it be filled with tough questions, sharp answers, and plenty of coffee to keep us all going. 🙏
