Folks, it looks like the White House is pulling the plug on Lance Schroyer’s nomination to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement. I mean, this guy was a former Oklahoma state trooper, and suddenly he’s supposed to be in charge of a huge agency like ICE? It just didn’t add up. President Donald Trump announced the nomination back in June, but it’s been stalled ever since. I’m not surprised, considering the lack of experience Schroyer has in immigration enforcement. It’s like they thought, “Hey, he’s a good guy, let’s put him in charge of ICE.” Not exactly the most thought-out plan, if you ask me.
I was reading this article on CNN, and I just couldn’t help but chuckle at the whole situation. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin had chosen Schroyer, apparently because they’re buddies. Mullin even called Schroyer a “good friend of mine” at some event. That’s great, but is that really a good enough reason to put someone in charge of a major agency? I think not.
The White House website just casually listed Schroyer’s nomination withdrawal along with a bunch of others. No big deal, just a nomination to lead a critical agency, no need to make a fuss. It’s unclear why the nomination was pulled, but I’m guessing it had something to do with the fact that Schroyer’s nomination was facing some major challenges in the Senate. I mean, Homeland Security Chairman Rand Paul hadn’t even scheduled a confirmation hearing yet. That’s not exactly a good sign.
A spokesperson for Paul said the senator hasn’t expressed opposition to the nominee, but come on, we all know there was some drama going on behind the scenes. Immigration hardliners and some Homeland Security officials were already questioning Schroyer’s qualifications, and it’s not hard to see why. The guy just didn’t have the experience to lead an agency like ICE.
CNN reached out to the Department of Homeland Security and the White House for comment, but I’m sure they just got the usual “no comment” response. It’s not like they’re going to come out and say, “Yeah, we made a mistake with this nomination.” Although, that would be kind of refreshing, wouldn’t it? ICE hasn’t had a Senate-confirmed leader since the Obama administration, so you’d think they’d want to get this right.
In the end, it’s just another day in Washington, folks. A nomination gets pulled, and we’re all left wondering what really went down. I’m sure we’ll never know the full story, but one thing’s for sure – it’s been an entertaining ride. And who knows, maybe someday ICE will actually have a leader who knows what they’re doing. Wouldn’t that be something? As I finish my coffee and close this article, I have to say, it’s been a wild ride, and I’m just happy to have been along for the ride, shaking my head in amusement.
