I’m sipping my coffee and reading about this wild story on CNN, folks. A jury in Vermont just convicted a guy named Jason Eaton of attempted murder for shooting three Palestinian college students back in November 2023. The students, Hisham Awartani, Tahseen Aliahmad, and Kinnan Abdalhamid, were all 20 years old at the time and were walking near the University of Vermont campus when Eaton opened fire on them. Awartani was left paralyzed from the waist down, and the other two were wounded. Eaton claimed he was acting on orders from the CIA and Mossad, but the jury didn’t buy it.
The whole thing is just crazy. Eaton’s lawyers tried to argue that he was insane at the time of the shooting, but the prosecution said he was fully aware of what he was doing. The victims testified about the shooting, and it’s just heartbreaking to hear what they went through. They were just walking down the street, talking and laughing, when Eaton came out of nowhere and started shooting.
The investigation found that Eaton had purchased a gun from a Vermont gun store just seven months before the shooting. He also had three shotguns in his apartment. It’s just unbelievable that someone could do something like this. The victims were all wearing traditional Palestinian scarves, and it’s possible that Eaton targeted them because of their ethnicity.
Eaton’s defense team said he was suffering from a delusional disorder and thought he was hearing messages from the CIA and Mossad. But the prosecution argued that he was fully responsible for his actions. The jury deliberated for several hours before reaching a verdict, and now Eaton faces up to life in prison.
It’s just shocking to think about what these young men went through. They were just trying to enjoy their holiday weekend, and then this senseless act of violence changed their lives forever. The community in Burlington, Vermont, was shaken by the shooting, and it’s still trying to come to terms with what happened.
