In a shocking turn of events, Sharon Osbourne revealed that the organizers of last year’s “Back To The Beginning” charity concert in Birmingham, UK “really, really wanted” MEGADETH to take part in the event. Because, you know, it’s not like they had a plethora of other amazing bands lined up, like ALICE IN CHAINS, ANTHRAX, GUNS N’ ROSES, LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON, METALLICA, PANTERA, SLAYER, and TOOL. I mean, who needs MEGADETH when you have all those other incredible bands, right? 🤷♀️
The concert, which marked Ozzy Osbourne and BLACK SABBATH’s final performance, was a huge deal, with over 42,000 fans attending the sold-out show and more than five million streaming it via VOD. And let’s be real, it’s not like MEGADETH would have made a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. I mean, they’re just one of the “Big Four” of 1980s thrash metal, along with METALLICA, SLAYER, and ANTHRAX. No big deal, right? 😒
The Story Behind MEGADETH’s Absence
According to Sharon, the reason MEGADETH didn’t make it to the concert was simply a matter of time. “There was no time, we couldn’t fit everybody in on one day,” she said. “There were so many bands that were due to play that we just couldn’t because there was not enough time.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what happened. It’s not like they didn’t want MEGADETH or anything. 🙄
But wait, there’s more! James LoMenzo, MEGADETH’s bassist, had a different story to tell. In a post on the Back To The Beginning – Black Sabbath’s Final Concert Facebook group, he said that the band wasn’t even invited to the event. “I don’t believe that anybody asked us, which was fine,” he said. “Not everybody gets invited to every party.” Yeah, no kidding. 🤷♂️
Sharon Osbourne’s Interview with Rolling Stone
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Sharon gushed about the concert, saying that it was “just overwhelming” and that “everything was just great that day.” She also praised Tom Morello, the concert’s musical director, saying that he’s “an absolute saint” and “the saint of metal.” Because, you know, that’s exactly what Tom Morello needs – more praise and adoration. 🙏
But what’s really interesting is that Sharon also revealed that she had to remove one big name from the lineup because they “wanted to make a profit” from the event. “And it’s not the time to make a profit,” she said. “After the show, I’ll let everybody know who it was. I think people will be shocked.” Oh, the suspense is killing me! 🤔
And because we all love a good mystery, Sharon also got into a dispute with the manager of one of the bands who were originally slated to take part in the concert. “I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and SABBATH,” she told Metal Hammer magazine. “And it was probably the worst way I’ve felt in years.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what you want to hear – a bunch of drama and conflict behind the scenes of a charity concert. 🙄
In conclusion, it’s clear that MEGADETH was apparently “really, really wanted” for Ozzy’s farewell concert, but who needs them anyway? 🤷♀️ I mean, it’s not like they would have added anything significant to the event. And hey, at least we got to hear some amazing performances from the other bands, right? 🤘 So let’s all just move on from this non-controversy and focus on the music. Because, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about – the music, the drama, and the endless speculation about who was or wasn’t invited to the party. 🎉
