Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. Rep. Andy Biggs is projected to win the Republican nomination for governor in Arizona, and it’s going to be a wild ride. He’ll be facing off against Democratic incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs in the general election, and I’m sure the media is just salivating at the prospect of covering this one. I mean, who doesn’t love a good battle between a hardline conservative and a Democratic governor in a battleground state?
It’s one of several primaries in highly competitive territory, and I’m sure the pundits are already analyzing the results and trying to read the tea leaves. But let’s be real, the real fun is just beginning. Biggs has a reputation as a conservative firebrand, and he’s not afraid to speak his mind. He was a member of the House Freedom Caucus and even served as chair, so you know he’s got some strong opinions.
And then there’s the fact that he voted against the certification of the 2020 election, which is sure to be a topic of discussion in the general election. Trump endorsed him, of course, because why wouldn’t he? Biggs is also backed by the influential conservative activist organization, Turning Point Action, so he’s got some heavy hitters in his corner.
But Biggs isn’t the only one making waves in Arizona. Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is projected to win the Republican nomination for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District, despite facing some pretty serious allegations of personal misconduct. I mean, who doesn’t love a good scandal? And former NFL kicker Jay Feely is also winning his House primary, because why not? It’s not like we don’t have enough celebrities in politics already.
And let’s not forget about the general election race for Arizona’s battleground 6th District, where Democrat JoAnna Mendoza is taking on incumbent Republican Rep. Juan Ciscomani. This one is going to be a real nail-biter, folks. Both candidates have raised a ton of money, and it’s going to be a real fight.
Mendoza has a compelling personal story, having grown up in poverty and overcome some serious challenges. And Ciscomani has his own story to tell, having immigrated to the US as a child and becoming a successful politician. This one is going to be a real battle of the biographies, and I’m sure the media is just eating it up.
In the end, it’s going to be a long and wild ride in Arizona, folks. Buckle up, because it’s going to be a bumpy one. And who knows, maybe we’ll even get some surprises along the way. After all, as we all know, politics is full of twists and turns, and you can’t make this stuff up. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a real barnburner of an election on our hands. Bless their hearts.
