Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest development in the case against former Olympian David Hearn, and I have to say, it’s a doozy. The Justice Department is dropping the criminal case against Hearn, who was accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It turns out that the $14 million renovation of the pool, courtesy of President Donald Trump, was flawed. Who would have thought, right? I mean, it’s not like the Trump administration has a track record of, shall we say, questionable decisions.
The DC US Attorney’s office, led by Jeanine Pirro, has filed a new court document stating that the damage to the pool was actually caused by the contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings, and their rushed installation prior to the America 250 celebration. I guess you could say it was a case of “haste makes waste.” Bless their hearts, they were trying to get it done in time for the party, but it looks like they ended up making a bit of a mess.
Hearn’s attorneys are, understandably, thrilled with the decision, and they’re not holding back in their criticism of the Trump administration. They’re saying that the case should never have been brought in the first place and that it’s a clear example of “abuse of government power.” Ouch, that’s gotta sting. I’m sure the administration is just thrilled to be on the receiving end of that kind of criticism.
When CNN reached out to Atlantic Industrial Coatings, the company’s response was a resounding “no comment.” Yeah, because that’s always the best way to handle a situation like this – just clam up and hope it all goes away. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a big ol’ mess on our hands.
The White House and the Interior Department have been contacted for comment, but so far, crickets. I’m sure they’re just taking their time to craft the perfect response. You know, something like, “We’re shocked and outraged by the flaws in our own renovation project.” Yeah, right.
In conclusion, it looks like the Justice Department has egg on its face, and the Trump administration has another PR headache to deal with. As I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking, you can’t make this stuff up. The whole thing is just a big, messy drama, and I’m here for it.
