I just spilled my beer all over my desk because I’m so excited to share this news with you all. Skateboard Marketing, the legendary company that’s been keeping metal on the dial since 1991, is turning 35! 🎂 I mean, who wouldn’t want to celebrate three and a half decades of promoting the most iconic bands in heavy music? It’s not like we have better things to do, like actually listening to music or something.
Founded by the one and only Munsey Ricci on August 12, 1991, Skateboard Marketing has been the driving force behind breaking new artists and supporting legacy acts. Because, let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned metal party? And speaking of parties, the company has announced its 35th-anniversary bash will take place at The Meadows in Brooklyn on Friday, October 9, 2026. The event will be hosted by comedian Don Jamieson, because who better to make fun of metalheads than a comedian?
The Legacy of Skateboard Marketing
Skateboard Marketing has been responsible for some of the most epic metal moments in history. I mean, who could forget the time they got FEAR FACTORY, BLIND GUARDIAN, GRAVE DIGGER, WARRIOR SOUL, and OTEP to perform at one of their parties? 🤯 It’s not like they’re trying to make the rest of us look bad or anything. With a roster that includes MOTÖRHEAD, TESTAMENT, JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH, DIO, OVERKILL, SOULFLY, SEPULTURA, PARKWAY DRIVE, EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL, SOILWORK, IRON MAIDEN, and OZZY OSBOURNE, it’s a wonder they haven’t won a Nobel Prize in Metal yet.
But seriously, Skateboard Marketing has been a vital part of the metal scene for decades, and it’s amazing to see them still going strong. As Munsey Ricci says, “There is nothing more fitting than getting everyone together in a room for drinks and a celebration.” Because, you know, that’s exactly what metal is all about – drinking and celebrating. Who needs music when you have an open bar?
The Future of Metal
As the company evolves, radio promotion is more important than ever. Because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love listening to the radio? It’s not like we have Spotify or anything. Skateboard Marketing has been a launching pad for many new developing artists, as well as mainstay legacy bands. And with their platform Metal Contraband, they’re providing labels, managers, and artists with accurate visibility into metal radio performance. Because, you know, that’s exactly what metal needs – more data and analytics.
David Ellefson (ex-MEGADETH) commented, “Skateboard Marketing have been a vital part of most every record I have released in the last 30+ years.” Because, you know, that’s not a biased opinion at all. Wendy Dio, president of NIJI Entertainment Group Inc., said, “Congratulations to Munsey Ricci and everyone at Skateboard Marketing on an incredible 35 years.” And Tommy Victor (PRONG) said, “Happy 35th anniversary to Munsey and all at the legendary Skateboard marketing Ltd.” Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good anniversary party?
In conclusion, Skateboard Marketing is still alive and kicking, and we’re all just along for the ride. So, let’s raise a glass (of beer, of course) to 35 years of metal mayhem and many more to come. Cheers! 🍺🤘
