OMG! 😱 You will NOT believe what happened! Former ANTHRAX singers John Bush (you know, the guy who WASN’T Joey Belladonna) and Neil Turbin (who?) teamed up to butcher, I mean, perform a cover of RAINBOW’s “Long Live Rock ‘N’ Roll” at this year’s “Rock For Ronnie” concert. Apparently, it was for some cancer fund. As if that makes it any better. 🙄 They were joined by some randos on drums, bass, and guitar. Like, who even ARE these people? Seriously, did they pull them from a local bar band? Fan-filmed video? More like FAN-SUFFERED video. 🤢
The annual Rock For Ronnie, an afternoon of live rock music (allegedly), silent and live auctions (for rich people, obviously), food trucks (because what else are you gonna do while you suffer through the music?) and fun (debatable) geared to the entire family (if your family enjoys torture), celebrates the memory of the late singer who succumbed to gastric cancer in 2010. So, basically, guilt-tripping you into listening to bad music for a good cause. Clever. 😈
ANTHRAX has had a number of vocalists – including Turbin (who?), Bush (the “other” guy), Joey Belladonna (the ONLY one that matters, fight me!), and Dan Nelson (remember him? No? Exactly!) – over the last 44 years. Guitarist Scott Ian and drummer Charlie Benante are still there, probably wondering what went wrong with their lives. 🤔
Turbin sang on ANTHRAX‘s debut LP, 1984’s “Fistful Of Metal” (more like a fistful of MEH!), before getting booted. Then came Belladonna, who sang on four albums, including “Among The Living” (1987). But then HE got fired too! 🤣 Talk about drama! Bush was in the band from 1992 to 2005 but got sidelined when Belladonna returned for a reunion tour. Then Nelson showed up and disappeared faster than my patience for this article. Bush came back for a bit, then Belladonna took the job back in 2010. It’s like a revolving door of mediocrity! 🚪
Neil, bless his heart, talked about a potential one-off ANTHRAX show with him, Belladonna, and Bush. Yeah, because THAT’S what the world needs. 🙄 He said, “Well, it’s not up to me… There’s no offer… There’s no possibility… There’s no talk of it.” Okay, we get it, Neil. You’re not getting the call. 📞 He also whined about not getting paid in the past and how everyone is emotionally abusive. Boo hoo! 😭 Get over it, dude! Nobody cares about your drama. 🎭
Neil continued, “I’m not here to analyze anybody… but it’s the way I was treated… and I’m gaslighted constantly.” Oh, the victim complex is strong with this one! 💪 He then went on a rant about telling the truth and not carrying bad feelings. Sure, Neil. Sure. 🤥
In 2020, Ian was asked about a special tour with all the singers. He said, “Could we? Yes. Do we want to? That’s the question.” Ouch! 🤕 He admitted the idea crossed his mind but wasn’t sure he WANTED to do it. Can’t blame him. Who wants to relive the past with a bunch of has-beens? 🤷♂️
Ian continued, rambling about set changes and video montages. It sounds like a logistical nightmare. He said it’s not something you can “schlep around on a tour bus.” Yeah, because schlepping around is beneath them now. 🙄
Turbin previously addressed Ian‘s comments. He said, “John Bush is great; I love John Bush.” Okay, Neil, we get it. You’re trying to be nice. 😇 He then mentioned meeting Bush and how “super cool” it was. He’d “love to do shows with John.” Desperate much? 😩
Turbin then brought up MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST and HELLOWEEN as examples of bands with multiple singers. Because comparing yourself to those bands is totally realistic. 🤣
“As far as what MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST did and what HELLOWEEN did, I think they’ve done things with class and with respect for the bands,” he said. “So, yeah, there is certainly a value to presenting something like that. However, I think it really boils down to, what do the fans want? It’s what the fans want that matters. If that’s something that would bring the fans out, I think it’s something that’s interesting about a band.” Translation: “Please, fans, tell them you want to see me!” 🙏
“People are gonna have differences in life,” Turbin added. “That doesn’t mean people are gonna agree, especially on issues or personalities or whatever it might be. To me, it just shows a side of the band that they’re capable of doing that. And I respect MICHAEL SHENKER FEST, I respect the fact that Graham Bonnet and Michael Schenker would even set foot back on stage [with each other considering their past issues]. I think it’s great, ’cause these are strong personalities, and to get ’em to come together, I think it’s great that they were able to do that. Not everybody on this planet is gonna play nice together.” So deep. 🙄
During The Metal Voice chat, Neil circled back to ANTHRAX, saying, “If that’s something to consider, I would be open to considering that.” But then he clarified, “I’m not really looking to join any band that I used to be in.” Contradict much? 🤪 He finished by saying it’s “up to the fans.” Again, begging for attention. Pathetic. 🤦♀️
Turbin sang on “Fistful Of Metal” and wrote some lyrics. Big whoop. 🙄
Turbin celebrated the 40th anniversary of “Fistful Of Metal” with a three-date tour of Brazil. I’m sure the Brazilians were thrilled. NOT! 😂
Video of the performance? I think I’d rather watch paint dry. 😴
