In a recent chat with “Reckless” Rexx Ruger of the prestigious (ahem) Pod Scum podcast, UGLY KID JOE’s very own guitar wizard and producer extraordinaire, Dave Fortman, graced us with tales of the band’s next masterpiece – the sequel to the earth-shattering “Rad Wings Of Destiny” (October 2022, mark your calendars!).

When asked if songwriting has become easier, Dave, in his infinite wisdom (as transcribed by yours truly, BLABBERMOUTH.NET), revealed the secret sauce: “Me and Whit [UGLY KID JOE frontman Whitfield Crane], in a moment of sheer brilliance (or maybe just boredom) in 2023, decided to lock ourselves in a room and ‘fucking go for it.’ And lo and behold, seven or eight sonic masterpieces emerged in a mere 12 days! Give or take a few days, who’s counting? 🤷‍♂️ It’s all thanks to my genius ability to extract riffs from Whit’s head, turn them into reality, and then subject him to endless loops of drum machine torture until he starts singing. Then, we ‘correct’ things. You know, make them even more ‘perfect’.” 🤣

Fortman, in a moment of humble bragging, added, “Back in the day, it was me and Klaus [Eichstadt, UGLY KID JOE‘s other guitar-slinger] who did all the heavy lifting. Klaus was even on ‘America’s Least Wanted’! But fear not, my loyal fans, the process hasn’t gotten easier. I just do my thing, and somehow, it all magically works out.” ✨

When quizzed about the age-old question of “album vs. EP,” Dave, with the wisdom of a thousand suns, declared, “LP, baby! Why not? We’ve got the material! Me and Whit wrote so many songs, we could probably build a house out of them! 🏠 There are, like, 12 songs in the making. Maybe even more. Who knows? Who cares?” 🤪

“Rad Wings Of Destiny,” in case you missed it (you probably did), saw UGLY KID JOE reuniting with the legendary Mark Dodson, the man who blessed us with “America’s Least Wanted.” Ah, nostalgia!

But wait, there’s more! UGLY KID JOE will be gracing the stages of Europe with LIFE OF AGONY on the “30 Years Of Ugly” tour in November 2025. Get your tickets now, before they sell out… to the bots! 🤖

In the spring of 2023, UGLY KID JOE embarked on their first U.S. tour in a whopping 27 years. Yes, you read that right. 27 years! Were they missed? Debatable. 🤔

After a 15-year nap, UGLY KID JOE woke up in 2012 and decided to grace Europe with their presence. They even released an EP called “Stairway To Hell” (2012) and a full-length album called “Uglier Than They Used Ta Be” (2015). Catchy titles, right? 😂

Five years ago, Crane, in a moment of deep introspection (or maybe just a good buzz), told Eonmusic about the band’s meteoric rise to fame with “Everything About You” in 1991: “‘Eye of the storm’ is a fancy way of saying it was a chaotic mess. Lots of people in the music industry are full of it, and when you’re 23, you’re too dumb to know better. It was fun, but also overwhelming. But hey, we survived, and now I’m old and wise enough to handle it all.” 👴

So there you have it, folks! UGLY KID JOE is back, uglier than ever, and ready to unleash more musical madness upon the world. Prepare yourselves! 😈
